Hi all. I have a smartphone Pubquiz (Trivia night) company and need to be able to recommend/supply a wireless router in the UK and US for trivia hosts to use with our product.
We've tried a few models but it would be nice to know that we are using the best router for the job.
The host laptop connects to a wireless router via ethernet cable creating a wired network which up to 32 Smartphones/tablets join wirelessly (using DHCP) and transmit/receive small packets of data and small (40k) Jpegs from the host to the handsets.
IMPORTANT. THERE IS NO INTERNET CONNECTION JUST SMARTPHONES COMMUNICATING WITH LAPTOP LOCALLY.
Coverage and reliability are of key importance. We have had success with the Airport extreme but not everyone want's to buy Apple + it is not a web based interface and also if you need to change the Wireless channel it is a very lengthy re-boot time.
We've tried Netgear WNR2000s and WNR3500s and have had reasonable results with the latter but the 2000 start's to fail towards 20 connections performing the tasks we require.
It would be nice if there is something around the $100 mark we could recommend to customers but appreciate it may need to be a higher figure to achieve the reliability we require.
Here is a quiz in action. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwQMNqJ76Ys
Requirements...
1. Comfortably connect and communicate small amounts of data up to 32 wireless handsets 2.4ghz
2. Compete well with neighbouring WiFi networks.
3. Use a web based interface and not require a lengthy reboot time when changing settings.
Thanks ever so much from Alan.
