Hi all,
I have being trying to research NAS's over the past week but I am still a bit confused with it all.
I have read the sticky regarding which NAS is right for you and whil eit has helped clarify what I need I'm still no closer to picking a model.
Background & Equipment
I would like to set up a basic NAS for streaming media, listening to my ITune library and using uTorrent. I currently have alternate backup equipment.
My equipment inlcudes:
1. Belkin wireless n router (10/100 only)
2. connected by cat5 cable to a 10/100 switch
3. Connected to the switch is a Astone AD-110D, Samsung Blu-ray and Tivo (Series 3)
4. I use the wireless to connect to a laptop, IPhone and Ipod Touch.
I have about 500GB of family videos, dvds (in mvk and TS format but I don't think at 1080) and ITune library. SO I will assume that a 1TB would be more than sufficient for my needs!
I am using Win 7 and use a AMD 2+ 6400 Quad core with 8GB ram.
Questions:
1. Would a cheap single disk NAS like the WD My Book Live or Netgear Stora be more than adequate for streaming the videos / dvd's across the Astone media player (which supports UPnP and DLNA), laptop and IPhone / Ipod Touch?
2. Are wireless routers with gigabyte switches and Network drive capability work just as well as a separate NAS?
3. Will the 10/100 wireless router likley be a bottleneck for me? Would a 10/100 switch be sufficient for dvd quality movies?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Cheers.
