Need strong wireless router

I have verizon fios and was using their router and in my room i have poor wireless reception so i remembered i had a dir-825 in the closet somewhere thinking since its wireless n it should improve somewhat my wireless reception and transfer speed.

Boy was i wrong the verizon router wireless G had better reception and transfer speed than the dlink 825 in wireless n.

Anyways i need a strong wireless router preferably n due to backups and was wondering if someone could recommend the best for my situation.

Moving the current location of my router is no an option :( or if possible any option on the router that my improve its performance

thanks in advance

What did you use for a wireless adapter in your experiment with the DIR-825?

Did you shut off the wireless in the Verizon router when you ran the experiment?

An N router with a G adapter will not provide any performance improvement.

I am using the intel 5300 agn and i replaced the verizon router, i have simply the dir-825 since i got fios so i dont need a modem.

You saw NO improvement in speed? How did you test?

i tried transferring a file from my laptop to my whs server and it was slower and the amplitude dB and saw that with verizon i was around -70 and with dlink i am around -80's

How much slower was the transfer. How close are router and client? Are you using 2.4 GHz for both tests? Are you using WPA2/AES encryption?

yes i am using WPA2/AES and 2.4 Ghz, i deactivated 5Ghz since i heard that longe range its worse than 2.4Ghz

distance is about 70-80 feet

speed with the verion router it was transferring around 200kbps and with dlink is around 100kbps

And what is your Link rate (the "speed" reported in Windows wireless connection status)?

Yep. All signs point to a weaker signal being received. If you're not running in 20 MHz bandwidth mode, try that. Also try switching the router to G only mode.

switching it to 20mhz helped slightly its transfer around 150kbbs instead of 100 when at 40mhz, only flaw is that it changes the strength on closer items, for example the laptop i had closer to the router went from 300mbps to 130 mbps

I had the exact same results when I bought that D-Link DIR-825 about a month ago. I returned it to seller promptly. Was total junk. You can get better performance with almost any other N product surely.
