Hi everyone first time posting.

I have a problem with my AX86U latest firmware.

A while back I saw venom on Netflix but didn't have time to watch it and couple weeks later, I recently just noticed that my avatar on my Netflix changed. No biggie. A week later again, I wanted to watch venom on Netflix (I'm in Canada) but it's no where to be found. So I did some trial and error and if I bypass my router and plug my PC ethernet straight to my modem from my ISP, my old avatar shows and I am able to watch venom and other shows that I have watched (seven deadly sins and Baki)

I thought maybe I accidentally changed a setting in my router. So I factory reset my AX86U and I still have the problem. All my devices at home are affected (firestick, iPads, etc). Even my phone. When I'm connected to wifi the shows I want to watch aren't there but when using my network data it's there.

Do you guys know what's happening?

Attached photos show boss baby without wifi and the other one is when I'm connected to wifi (no venom on this one)

My DNS is set to auto. And no vpn.

Try this: Using your PC go to the router's WAN settings and hit the MAC Clone button. Apply that change, wait for it to complete and then power off/on your modem and router for good measure.

First, check your Netflix account. Go to Viewing activity. Find the device and IP address which are not yours.
1. I found the device and IP address are not mine: your Netflix account is hacked.
Go to you account>delete all of Viewing activity(contents which you watched)>Log out from All Devices>Change your Login Account(email) and password.

2. Nothing suspicious:

I hope it's not a hacking.

OMG that worked!!

Could you explain to me what happened?

I was up all night trying to fix the problem and found that turning off bridge mode gave me the movies and shows I watched. But then my server went offline because of my DDNS on my router, and couldn't remotely access it because it gave me a double NAT (this is what I assumed). Turning off bridge mode gave me a 10.0.0.x WAN address instead of my public one from my ISP.

Anywho, could you explain what the problem was so I can understand what happened.

Thanks again!!

Nobody knows your network environment. You are now just saying about bridge, server, ddns, nat something, not enough information. But I do know you have a wrong network system.

Glad to hear that worked.

From the information you posted it appeared that when you were connected through your router Netflix thought you were in a different country. It tries to determine your location based on your public IP address, which is why it worked on your LTE connection.

Your ISP assigns you a public IP address based on the MAC address of the device connected to the cable modem (assuming the ISP modem/router is in bridge mode). So each different device connected directly to the cable modem will receive a different public IP address. So when you directly connected your PC you got a different address than your router had.

It is quite common for Netflix to mistakenly think that a certain range of IP addresses are in one country when they really are not. Rather than trying to argue the point with Netflix it is easier to change your router's WAN IP address to one that you know works. By using the MAC Clone feature in the router you changed its WAN MAC address to that of your PC (and therefore the assigned public IP), which you already knew worked with Netflix.

Yes my modem is connected in bridge mode

I see, that makes sense.

Thanks again! Appareciate it!

@ColinTaylor So I removed the MAC address under WAN settings (the one you told me to clone) and now I have the my movies and shows again.

I thought that if i removed it, applied the new settings, then cloned the mac address again (same pc) and apply it would fix the problem, thats why I removed it in the first place.

But yea its working now and my shows and movies are there again.

What do you think this is happening?

My guess is that the lease for the IP address you were using had expired and when it was renewed your ISP assigned you a different IP than before. And the new IP address is blocked by Netflix. When you went back to using your real MAC address you got yet another different IP address, one that isn't blocked.

Some ISPs have a large enough pool of IP addresses that they rarely change. Other ISPs constantly give out different IP addresses each time the lease expires. The later is often the case with smaller ISPs or mobile operators.

On the other hand your ISP might cover a large geographic area (like a mobile phone company) and Netflix might be having a hard time trying to accurately geo-locate you. Who is your ISP?

Netflix has recently tightened the viewing restrictions on certain IP ranges that they think belong to IDCs (VPN providers). This process has adversely affected many legitimate use cases. So they relaxed the restrictions again.

Netflix has different levels of restrictions based on viewers' IP addresses. It could be:
No restrictions: You can watch both the shows that Netflix made, and the show Netflix does not own but has the right to stream, for example, can watch The Office (US) in Canada at this level.
Only Netflix's own shows: You can not find The Office (US).
No access: Netflix doesn't even load, or politely tells you that your region is not supported.

I never had this problem with my old router (Linksys ea6400)

Anyways I just checked Netflix again today and the movie venom is gone again. I'll have try and copy and mac address again later to see if it fixed the problem.

here is a video of what happens

edit* i copied the mac address again from my PC and everything is good. I'll keep you guys updated on how long this will last again.

Did you at some point revert the MAC address back to the original on the WAN poet?
When I first got the new router (ax86u) I really didn't notice Netflix being this weird, as I wasn't watching anything at that time. When I did notice I tried fixing it by doing a factory reset, and releasing dns through cmd prompt and what not. Then @ColinTaylor told me about the copying the mac address on the WAN section of my router so I did and it fixed it for a while. Couple weeks and some shows disappeared again (money heist) so I removed the mac address under WAN and it worked fine for couple days. And hear we are today with me adding the copied mac address back on.

Maybe it's the act of changing the MAC address that temporarily fixed the problem.

So its been 2 weeks, and ive changed it once a week from, removed mac address, shows are there. couple days later it would disappear. then copied mac address apply settings, my shows are there, and couple days later, it would disappear until i remove that mac address and apply the settings.

So i'm not sure what it is but its just bothersome to keep changing it lol and thats only when i do notice my shows are gone.

As a side note. I'm in the UK, using Vodafone as my ISP. Our ISP appears to be short of IP4 addresses and so has been known to repurpose them from other dominions. As a result, I've personally had access to IP regionalised content from the Republic of Ireland, Turkey, and India - based on the IP location databases that different companies use. The simple answer when this happens (pretty rare) is to reboot the router, you get a new WAN address, and the problem goes away!

Roll on IPv6! *I'm guessing some form of Geo-location is built into IPv6? - another thread maybe?*

i'm new to networking and stuff. very noob to whats out there, but above average from what my friends and family know.
