I don't know what D-Link will do.

Fair enough, I guess I can only try...

Even if you know the profile used, the product has to be tested to see if makes a significant difference.

Well, of course, but as you said:
I don't know yet which AV2 profile it implements, it would have to be AV2 MIMO 1.5 Gbps profile to have a shot at significant performance difference.

I realise it's still theoretical, & not confirmed as performing well at that standard, but, it's better than not knowing at all which profile it's theoretically supposed to support.

Thank-you.

Okay, I've largely whittled-down which pair (or 2) of HomePlug adapters to get:

TRENDnet TPL-420E2K
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833156493
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S7NJWOM/?tag=snbforums-20

TRENDnet TPL-421E2K (AFAICT it's exactly the same, except it has AC pass-through)
http://www.trendnet.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=115_TPL-421E2K (not avail. on newegg :-/)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UVN4318/?tag=snbforums-20

ZyXEL PLA5405-KIT
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833181423
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QIH1OOK/?tag=snbforums-20

D-Link DHP-701AV

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PVDJQHY/?tag=snbforums-20

Annoyingly it seems the 42(0/1)E2K units are still MIA in Australia, admittedly I haven't searched exhaustively yet, but so far it's not looking good. Does TRENDnet still have them on hold? Why? Is anyone aware of a retailer outside Australia, that offers them for a decent price (preferably the 421E2K!), & ships here?

Failing that; I'll have to move onto the PLA5405-KIT, the runner-up in the SNB charts, & I'm also eyeing the DHP-701AV. Do you all think the latter's likely to be faster, or could it be pure marketing rubbish? I saw one user's "review", it was way behind the 420E2K's performance in Tim's review. Given that, do you think it's likely to be some way behind the PLA5405 too? Or is it too hard to say based on that one review, & could the 420E2K & PLA5405 be just as bad -or worse- in that same env?

Thank-you.

I've come upon users claiming these won't work in Oz, or will work far from optimally & cause all sorts of issues.
They also say it'll be 6mth+ (or never) until equivalently performant units, tailored for our market, are available.

Can anyone confirm that's definitely true, any HomePlug engineers here, where do I get the final word on this?
Rather miffed if it's irrefutably true, wasted so much time on this, stupidly didn't think of that aspect...

Assuming all is good....
Best prices I’ve found so far for retailers who ship to Australia, if you see others -please share:

Nothing for 420E2K, just 1 for 421E2K (currently it's "temporarily out of stock")

PLA5405

DHP-701AV

May not ship to Oz, & total cost might be poor, YTBFD^

Unfortunately I am with Thiggins on this. Especially as variable as power wiring setups tend to be, the only way to know is trying one out and seeing how well it works in your home. The charts can give some general guidance, a really badly performing adapter is likely not to beat a really well performing adapter under any circumstances, but looking at most of the "same class" of powerline adapters, each class/generation seems to have one adapter that is somewhat better in one location and/or upload or download versus another adapter. I mean, I'd try to pick the overall best from the charts that is available for purchase in Australia, but that doesn't necessarily guarantee it'll actually for sure be better than another pair because of your specific setup.

You need to plan what goes where, and how to avoid signal-attenuating devices electrically near the MoCa devices - such as power strips with internal filters, some TVs and the like that have internal AC line filters, light dimmers, etc.
