Okay, just tested the new .372_130, and was very disappointed with wireless performance. My Roku in the living room only showed 2 bars for the 2.4GHz. band, and the 5GHz. band didn't make it at even 1 bar. Network Analyzer app on my Android phone confirmed these results.

So I went back to version .342 of the Asus firmware, and 2.4GHz. has 4 bars on the Roku in my living room! The 5GHz. band is listed (only 1 bar, though, used to be 2 bars a while ago, but neither 1 or 2 bars is very useful).

This makes me wonder what's going on? I cleared the nvram when I upgraded to .372_130 (since I last had Padavan's latest firmware on it), and got poor wireless performance. Made NO changes in settings when I downgraded to .342, but got much better wireless performance.

The bottom line is that I'm leaving .342 on this router, be a fool not to...As I said, I'm very disappointed with the wireless performance of .372_130! Maybe others will have better results, but I'm still hoping for better wireless performance in a new Asus firmware release, or at least as good as .342.

Yeah I upgraded to the latest firmware last night and everything was fine for awhile. The computer we have hooked up via ethernet is fine, but my computer hooked up wirelessly is suffering. I have a full 4-5 bars pretty much all the time, but the speeds are nowhere near what they were when i was using .360. I can barely get past 14mbps down when I was getting 28mbps with the last firmware. Latency in games is also suffering. I just checked in Diablo 3 and where I was getting ~80ms on .360 I'm now getting anywhere from 160-800. I didn't save a copy of .360 because I didn't think they'd take them all offline so I grabbed a copy of your .342 (hope you don't mind) and might install that or give Padavans custom firmware a try.

so i just update firmware and reset settings

just wondering, for people that having issue with wireless
do you guys reset router settings to factory default before/after update?
or you just update with your settings ?

resetting might not necessary but like we all know, when updating hardware firmware, reset to factory default is recommended step

I usually clear nvram after upgrading, before re-applying settings. The only time that I don't do that is if the two versions are very close, and then I'll do some testing to make sure that everything's good after upgrading.

I usually don't reset and didn't this time either. Maybe I should start doing that, but I put .342 back on the router and rebooted the router and am receiving my normal speeds. Are you having any issues with the latest firmware after an upgrade and reset?

guys, do you tried change "enable WMM APSD(automatic power save delivery)" setting to disable ? (firmware .374)
the default set is enable ... not sure if there effect or not

also worth mention, idk for sure if there any effect to performance or not
but you guys should check wifi - multicast rate on wireless log
and if possible compare to previous firmware, if different then try set to same multicast rate (rather than default:auto)

i still with .374
haven't testing much but PS3 + notebook that connected wireless so far not much different
but again both device are pretty close to N56u, is like 2-3meters range only

Very strange, I had issues staying on the WIFI with the 360 and 374, also my connection went from 150mb (on 342) to 72,5mb with thoes two new firmwares.
did factory reset befor and after updating firmware, did not help or solve my issues.

So I´ve reverted back to 342, and my speed is back up, and im guessing my disconnection have been fixed too. Really poor that the new firmware messed up so badly, for me anyway.

Thanks for hosting the old firmware, since its nolonger on asus page.

Firmware upgrade takes no effect

bear with me because I am a newbie ...

I followed the instructions, downloaded this new firmware (btw, on Mac Os X) and issued an update. My RT-N56U downloads the file and then reboots without warnings or errors but it seems at no effect: I still see the old 1.0.1.7f version everywhere in the control panel.

What could I did wrong?

Did you unzip the archive that you downloaded? The firmware file that you actually upgrade with should have a filename extension of ".trx". The archive that you download that contains this firmware file has a filename extension ".zip". Be sure that you extract the ".trx" file and upgrade with that.

Super newbie here. After buying my new RT-N56U yesterday and setting it up, I couldn't be happier. I bought it to replace a D-link DGL 4500 that served me for 5 years (clients were dropping intermittently already even after multiple resets) and I was choosing between the 56U and the D-link DIR-850L. I ended up buying this gem as you can see.

However I noticed that the firmware wasn't updated with the version that enables AiCloud on this router so I did a bit of research and ended up in this site.

I guess my question is; seeing that all my home devices (2 tablets, 2 iphones, 2 laptops) are connecting without any issues to the current firmware, is it worth upgrading the firmware to the most current version?

I have the 1.0.1.8x (f I think, I forgot).

just now, i playing abit with router setting
then just for fun click "check new firmware" and it updating itself
new firmware : 3.0.0.4.374_239-g4cbbc2a

before update is : 3.0.0.4.374_130-gc778cfa
it still .374.... maybe really minor update, not sure what changes
will post update if i find something

some say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

if u thinking to update firmware
seems for most people, firmware 3.0.0.4.342 give the best wifi performance

or if u want keep old/original blue UI, u can find latest firmware on asus site
