Well no one really helped here..

first the word 'LAN' was used improperly..

from google..
"Is LAN and Wi-Fi the same?"
WiFi is a wireless network to connect nearby devices with each other and share the Internet via hotspots.
Ethernet, on the other hand, is a LAN network standard used in wired LAN.

Also , many support forums remove anything that looks like a web address, even if it has a dot in the middle!!

As I found on the VM forum, the ASUS is a bit strange to set up - my last one ages ago, was already running, you just changed the parameters...

The ASUS is a bit like buying a car, except what you get is a big crate of parts, that you have to put together!!!

then I discovered hub3 was a bit 'unstable' in modem mode, and was confusing the ASUS, so I went back to router, and switched off wifi...

this was then followed by saying something similar to " have you found your gearing accessory, and connected it to the differential drive?? It is important to make sure the transport is working"

I asked for a 'menu' and all I got was do this, that, etc - and a reset only lands me back at the start, ASUS asking questions, and people using 'short hand' for what was on my screen!!

at least 'kevTech' was clear about what to do... that is when I went looking for someone who was trying the same thing I was...

I gave up until I found VMforum had a post, that said you had to wait up to 5mins after each switch on.. that helped!! :)

good bye...

It's sometimes hard to gauge the experience level when someone asks a question, and many of us will make assumptions - which can be wrong. Your question became something of a test - where those who tried to help had to figure out the environment you'd created, in which you were trying to work.

LAN stands for Local Area Network, and for many people that means a local network with both Wired and Wireless (WiFi) client devices.

FYI, if you put your Virgin Hub 3 into modem-only mode, with the only device connected to it directly is a router (any router) they are typically incredibly stable. But it does mean that EVERYTHING else has to connect to the router and not the Virgin hub!
