New Around Here
[first post, thanks for adding me!]

I have been suffering from connectivity issues on random devices since I got my ax88u pro about 3 months ago. It is primarily 2.4G devices on my IoT guest networks, but it seems that no devices are safe and sometimes have drops or connectivity loss on my main 5G network. Note: I have no additional routers / aimesh setup.

From syslog, my assumption is that it is related to the non stop messages like the following:
wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(645): wl0.2: Deauth_ind $$MAC, status: 0, reason: Unspecified reason (1), rssi:

wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(645): wl0.2: Deauth_ind $$MAC, status: 0, reason: Disassociated due to inactivity (4), rssi:

wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(645): wl0.1: Deauth_ind $$MAC, status: 0, reason: Deauthenticated because sending station is leaving (or has left) IBSS or ESS (3), rssi:

These messages appear for different devices every time I check. I noticed drops the most with my ring bridge and moen flo since those devices send notifications as soon as they go offline, but I know they aren't the only victims.

For reference the router is in the same spot as my previous router, the netgear r7000, which never had any these issues over the 4-5 years that I ran it. Not to mention, the above mentioned ring bridge is about 5feet from the router.

I mention range/signal specifically because I have about 25 emails with Asus support and that was always their conclusion as the source of the issues. They've said nothing is wrong with my hardware after sending 5+ GUI feedbacks. The only spark of hope I had is from first time I asked them to escalate my issue (about 5 emails in), and one of their techs said:
According to our higher department that the Internal cache version vs FW version is different. Base on the GUI feedback form information. The internal cache of the AX88U PRO is still using 3.0.0.4.388, while the router is running 3.0.0.6.102 version. we suggest to reset the router and try to see if the problem is improved. As the older firmware version's cache stored within the router will cause stability issues

This actually made sense to me because I did notice that I seemed to have a grace period with no connectivity issues for a random amount of time after a factory reset. Obviously, this isn't a solution since I can't be expected to factory reset every week. But this definitely feels like a deeper bug, doesn't it?

I see that a lot of seemingly similar issues have been floating around here, and on the web as well: . I also see some similar reviews (I just left one of my own on newegg).

I can't even remember all the things I've tried, but here's a rough list:
  1. - factory reset
  2. - manually flash newest asus firmware
  3. - change guest networks to IoT type
  4. - disable private mac address settings on all MAC devices
  5. - turn off smart connect and use info like this to try for max compatibility: https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1042475/
  6. - factory reset flash to merlin (currently on: 3004.388.8_2)
  7. - 2.4G - hardcode channel based on site survey
  8. - 2.4G - disable beamforming
  9. - 2.4G - wireless mode: legacy
  10. - 2.4G - channel: 20Hz
  11. - 2.4G - disable roaming assistant
  12. - Add problematic devices to Roaming Block list
My latest approach is to try to see if specific devices could be causing this global problem somehow. I'm starting by unplugging my orbit bhyve. I chose this device to start with since it got kicked during one of my outages, and I've never gotten it to reconnect. Will update here if I discover anything.

I know some posts have mentioned this could be a deauth attack, etc., but I really don't think so since others seem to be having the same issue. That said, I have thought about getting wireshark to do some testing.

I've spent so much time on this, and due to the nature of emailing with tech support and trying suggestions and being busy w/ work, I've blown way past the Newegg return window. Hoping that some folks have experience that they can share for me and others that suffer with this 200-300$ problem.

Many thanks! - Z

I remember a few folks around had to RMA their new RT-AX88U Pro routers. The replacement worked well after.

Really? That is somewhat promising. Do you have any example posts I can take a look at. I was worried about having to send the router in, only to get it back with them saying nothing is wrong..
