Please let me know whether this plan is correct, or not? Thanks in advance.
Just upgraded from RT-N66R, to RT-AC68W yesterday; primarily as new S7 Edge uses AC, want to see what it can do. Previously, no problems with the N66R. I have it as primary router with Fios Actiontec as secondary bridge; ethernet from the ONT to the Wan port of Asus router. I swapped in the AC68W; at some points I flashed the newest firmware from Asus .com 3.0.0.4.380_4164 but cannot recall the exact order of various events. I also flashed the previous configuration of the N66R .cfg file. Initially the AC wasn't connecting to internet; Asus tech support referred me to Verizon as I couldn't connect either old or new router to internet. Verizon did connect me to internet; 2.4 and 5 bands are working; but the range of the 5Ghz band is no better than with the N router. Much better signal with 2.4 at a distance. I did unplug power cable to AC router for 10 seconds. I did GUI rebooting as well. I used the same SSID and passwords as before.
My thought is to follow these instructions from previous thread, and reflash the Asus firmware; but tell me if I'm wrong please? thanks! [this from another thread on this site]

Unplug any USB devices, reboot the computer then flash the firmware above. Now, follow the (required) links below to get your router and network devices in a good/known state.

I also flashed the previous configuration of the N66R .cfg file.
You mustn't use the config file from one router on a different router, especially if they are different models as they are incompatible.

So follow the instructions in your first link to flash the firmware and reset in to the factory defaults.
Then configure it manually through the web interface.

Thank you! I'll update you on results
