considering upgrading from stock asus firmware to merlin for a little better performance and stability. I see 386.5 is out now , is it any good for the ax88u or is 386-2-3 better? i only ask because it seems some have said they went back to that 386-2-3 and it was better? looking for people with experience on both firmwares and this router. need ipv6 to work, and i have one 2.4ghz printer. thanks

I run 386.4 & .5 without issue on my AX88U (main router) - I have the feeling the last 386 versions are the best ever firmware I had on this router!

I have some devices (IoT) on 2.4 GHz without any issues across the last Merlin firmware versions.
But I do not use IPv6 as it was to much hassle in the past - as long a I get a full IPv4 stack from my ISP (incl. semi private public address), I have no reason to mess around with IPv6...

I don't use Asus routers on my network, but I have a few to play with. Performance will be the same. For stability - I abuse the routers when testing and stock Asuswrt 386 base is holding better in my tests, especially is you use AiMesh. Asuswrt-Merlin gives you more configuration options, if you need that.

Of course, you may get different opinions on the subject. Test, see for yourself, run what you like better.

I use Netgate firewall running pfSense and Ruckus AC Wave 2 access points.

Don't rely on online bufferbloat tests. You may not have bufferbloat at all below line saturation speeds. Many folks are trying to fix non-existing issue. What's your ISP line speed?

What you worry about?

The other devices must be uploading or downloading full speed. How often does it happen?

Try just adding fq_codel and see if it helps. Run these commands:
Code:
tc qdisc add dev br0 root fq_codel limit 1000
tc qdisc replace dev eth0 root fq_codel limit 1000
