New Around Here
Just signed up and just replaced my ASUS RT-N66U with a ASUS AC1750 (RT-AC66U-B1). I just upgraded the firmware from the ASUS site to 3.0.0.4.384_21140. I had ASUS Merlin Firmware on my old router. According to the ASUS Merlin site my firmware upgrade is identical to the RT-AC68U. My question is - Is whatever is on the Merlin site better than what I have? Or how do I know Merlin firmware is newer than what I just upgraded to. Silly newbie question right?

You can check to main Merlin thread here for an overview and links to the latest version (including changelogs).

You can also look at the dedicated thread for a particular release. As of today the current release is 384.6 which is based on Asus' 384_21045 GPL. Melin's firmware will always be slightly behind Asus' GPL because he has to wait for them to release it. But the actual features and security fixes are usually ahead of Asus'.
