Tried with other notebook to connect directly from ASUS to notebook and it worked as gps but when i plugged in to desktop it worked in gps for like 1min and renegotiated in 100m... grrr
i guess it's not ASUS problem but desktop end internal lan problem

Try a different cable. Make sure it's rated Cat 5e or higher, and that it's not some cheap knockoff (I've seen some so-called Cat 6 cables that seemed so poorly shielded that there was no way these would ever work reliably at gigabit speeds). Updating your desktop's network card driver might also help.

Thank you. I wanted to try this but the cabling through the wall is so hard for a novice to install.

I called for a quote for cabling through the pipe under wall and waiting for price!

Could you temporarily move your equipment around just so you could test a different cable to confirm that it's indeed a cabling issue? For instance, just have the router moved closer to the main computer and connecting it there with a different cable, even without being connected to your Internet connection. See if LAN performance becomes more stable then.

Hi, I am having a similar issue here. I have a N66U and a N12HP, both having the same speed problem. the capacity of the wifi/lan signal is definitely fine as I tested with bit torrent I could get close to full speed. However, for http downloads, this issue is pretty serious. I can't even stream youtube.

Here is how I troubleshot:

I tested with speedtest.net, google drive file download, also my ISP's own speedtest.

1st case: connect pc directly to modem and use PPPoE dialer. full speed

2nd case: connect N66U/N12HP to modem and then Lan/Wifi to PC, all default setting. full bt speed, 1/5 http speed. so the signal capacity is fine, but something wrong with the PPPoE protocol or something.

3rd case: connect N66U/N12HP to modem and then Lan/Wifi to PC, set IP pool starting address to 192.168.1.100 (instead of 192.168.1.1 by default) http speed improvement, but still not full speed.

4th case: connect an old router (linksys wrt160v2) to the modem then set the routers to AP mode. Full speed.

I can conclude there must be something wrong with the PPPoE settings/code.

Please help! I really regret buying this N66U yesterday, I should have gone for a linksys!

Anyway, I sold the N66U and replaced it with a cheap tp-link 841hp, then set the n12hp as repeater, problem solved. My day was so much easier.

i don`t get 1000 Full Duplex speed anymore? what went wrong? the cables are new CAT.5E...
