Hmmm, can't open the zip file. Anyone experiencing the same?

Works fine for me. Try re-downloading, maybe they were still uploading it to their servers when you tried to get it.

I have just downloaded it, no issues. Zip file contains the .trx firmware

This is a screen shot of the folder I have extracted the firmware's zip file to. I hope it helps.

Yea I been waiting for them to bring back repeater mode since it was dropped with the 87u. When they finally get the mu-mimo working the 88u repeaters will fly.

Good to know, but so far i cant see this version is available on any of the official support sites from Asus to the RT-AC88U .

Edit: Ok now they are there. Download works for me. But dont think they will be other like merlins actual 380.59 alpha so i stick with merlins.

Still not working for me either. Tried on two different computers, one with Windows 10 and the other with Windows 7. Both say that the file is invalid. Interesting part is the file size is 40+ but cannot open the file. Tried re-downloading today with the same result. Whatupwidat I wonder?

The extension should be .7z I guess, but you don't expect great compression as the kernel and file system image that make up the firmware image are highly compressed - it is good to use some form of compression though even if it increases the file size because the extraction should include some form of CRC check

I hate it when manufacturers use something other than zip. Asus themselves really annoyed me when they would randomly distribute a motherboard driver in .rar. How am I supposed to download Winrar to unzip the driver if I need that driver to get on the Internet?

EDIT: same pet peeve with video card manufacturer whose website makes it nearly impossible to download a video driver from their website unless you are already configured in 1280x1024 or higher. I sometimes need that driver to be able to reach that resolution...

Very interested to hear how this FW update performs for all you intrepid ones. There have been on a few posts on these and other forums that 3.0.0.4.380.2345 is buggy.

7zip worked! Good call, interesting that they would choose a non-standard zip file for something like this though.
On another note, is it a good idea to do it through the automatic process located in the GUI of the router?
