They work from certain IPs and don't work from others.
I receive 256 bytes only when trying direct download and a normal file when downloading via TOR or proxy.

A bit of the puzzle is shown here, both using the same PC with different Internet connections:

Via my ISP:
Check where www.asus.com is hosted:
tracert www.asus.com
Tracing route to e5110.e15.akamaiedge.net [184.27.206.181]

The Download page:
https://www.asus.com/Networking/RTN66U/HelpDesk_Download/

The download file:
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/wireless/RT-N66U_B1/FW_RT_N66U_30043789459.zip

Check where the download server is located:
tracert dlcdnet.asus.com
Tracing route to a1828.b.akamai.net [88.221.144.56]
This one gives the 256 bytes file!

Via a 4G connection:
Check where www.asus.com is hosted:
tracert www.asus.com
Tracing route to e5110.e15.akamaiedge.net [184.27.206.181]

The Download page:
https://www.asus.com/Networking/RTN66U/HelpDesk_Download/

The download file:
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/wireless/RT-N66U_B1/FW_RT_N66U_30043789459.zip

Check where the download server is located:
tracert dlcdnet.asus.com
Tracing route to a1828.b.akamai.net [2.21.243.67]
Same server name, other IP address compared to the ISP connection.
This one gives the correct file!

I can conclude the file issue is related to an outdated Akamai server, not my ISP.

Try the ASUS Canadian website link, below. The download worked.

http://www.asus.com/ca-en/Networking/RTN66U/HelpDesk_Download/
It doesn't work from my ISP connection, the download link anyway goes to dlcdnet.asus.com which translates to Akamai server a1828.b.akamai.net.
Different DNS servers point to different mirror servers of a1828.b.akamai.net, and these mirror servers appear to not synchronise correct.
It would have been the best if Asus had changed the file name. By using the same file name for the 256 bytes version and the proper 28.23 MBytes version the mirrors lost track.

Anyway, as said before, I got the proper file by using another connection.

Hey guys,

I just did my "let's see if there's an update" random check via the router management interface, and there was "3.0.0.4.378_9313-g53ab20f" available.

Not sure what the differences are between this release and the one everyone on here is trying to get. Mine has a lower number on the end of 9313.

I like the new login pop up. GUI's are nice!

here's a command to download it using tor in ubuntu:
Code:
torsocks wget http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/wireless/RT-N66U_B1/FW_RT_N66U_30043789459.zip
still, it returned 256-bytes file, so i've changed tor identity (and external IP) several times with this command:
Code:
pidof tor | xargs sudo kill -HUP
and finally got the 'big' file.

ASUS_ASUSWRT
any chance to add disable led feature to n66u ? This model have not led off buton, and now we can't disable led.
