In the case of PPPoE normally the ppp daemon will set the gateway. How your mikrotik behaves?

A quick consensus check.

I'm currently running firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.5134 on my RT-AC87U. Despite the apparent niggles of the new firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9177 (many of which appear to be relevant to single user or small group use cases) is the consensus that it's worth upgrading to the latest firmware version, especially if I've been have problems with 5GHz Wi-Fi reliability, rather than waiting for the next (who knows how long it will be away) release?

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Short answer: yes

This is with all beamforming on and a zoo of 5GHz devices.

My uptime :)

I haven't been so lucky with beamforming on. I have to keep it off in order to have stability in both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.

Device names > 15 characters are super common today. One commonly overlooked fact is that the default device name of most Android devices is greater than 15 characters. Until a fix arrives, perhaps going into About Phone on your Android device and giving each of your phones/tablets shorter (and maybe meaningful) names is a good workaround.

Not sure if this is too specific, but one of kid's tablets, a Samsung Galaxy Tab S, in the Settings-About-Device Name field, it says "kid's tablet." However, in the Device List, it says "Samsung Android Phone," which is longer than 15 characters. How do I fix this?

The issue is actually more complex than that. There are a number of places in the code where long device names were already being properly truncated. It's just that there are a few places in the code were they weren't. This is why not everyone was affected - my two Android devices never triggered the issue for me.

In any case, Asus has resolved the issue on their end, so it's just a matter of waiting for a new firmware release. No idea when that will happen.

why ie beta ? :)
or can we also expect portteaming features ???

The Wifi Alliance won't start validating and certifying MU-MIMO devices until June 2016. So until then, any MU-MIMO client or router will be considered "beta", "uncertified", "might not be compatible", and so on.

Very early days, but I think the iPad Air 2's problems with sleeping on 5Ghz have been fixed with IOS9.1. Connection speed no longer seems to drop after a minute and it seems for now to stay connected. I have seen it switch to 2.4Ghz once, but not drop off the network as before. Anyone else confirm?

Nah! It's back doing the same old stuff. I think there must just have been some background tasks using 5Ghz earlier, keeping it alive.

I'll check now. Going to leave it connected over night and will check the connection time in the morning.
