Hello

I'm not sure this is the right thread but I try.

I would like just one single box that does it all. That means:

* ADSL Modem
* Router
* Wireless
* Minimum 8 LAN-ports

Do you have any suggestions. I'm only able to find 4-port modem/routers. But it would be nice to just have one great box in the basement. Just configure one single box.

Thanks

/Brian

There are quite a lot of routers for the first three functions. None of these routers have more than 4 ports.

You can select whatever ADSL+WiFi router, and add any cheap switch (10-15 euro, or 30 euro for gigabit). Its still only the router you have to configure.

Example: Linksys WAG300N
________
Mazda cx-9 specifications

I've never seen anything beyond 4 ports in this area. Valantin is right, just buy a normal 4 port one and hang a bigger switch off of it. Still just 1 device to configure.

agreed. also, having a second switch could help alleviate any slowdown or bottlenecking you might get.

Yup, 4 ports is it.

In this day and (green) age, a higher port count should be offered, as a second device will undoubtedly use more carbon (er power).

Haven't seen all in one boxes with > 4 LAN ports.
There are a few small business routers with 8 and 16 LAN ports...however they'd still require a separate "modem" hung off the WAN port(s)

Thanks

One of my colleagues suggested Netgear DGFV338.

Maybe he is right, that this one will work. But maybe you can help me "validate" this box - will it solve all my 4 needs?

I don't know anything about Netgear. I have a Billion 5200G now and that one is hopeless. Bad wireless strength, limited MAC-filter accounts and so on.

If this Netgear won't work for me, what ADSL-Wireless-4port-router would you recommend? (Still because my Billion is hopeless)

That box looks about right. It says it's ADSL2+ compatible, which not all ISP's are using yet. You might just want to make sure it's backwards compatible with plain jane ADSL. I'm no expert on ADSL standards though, maybe 2+ gear is inherently compatible with vanilla DSL. Not sure there.

Looks about right otherwise though, for what you're looking for. Netgear is a fairly big name in networking, so no big issues there. Most of their gear seems to be decent in most scenarios. I dont use NG much personally though.

From my experience it is, SBC/Yahoo has been shipping Speedstream 4200 models for quite a while til they switched to the Motorola equivalent...the 4200 being Siemens first adsl2+ model I think. adsl2+ modems being able to handle up to 24 megs down, versus up to 8 megs down of their predecessors.
