I have an Asus RT-AC5300 with Merlin 380.66 firmware. I notice when my PC is downloading at full speed, only Core 1 gets to 100% use. Core 2 only has about 1 to 2 % use....is this normal ?

Why is it normal for only one core to be in use ? What is the second core used for ?

For other processes. The kernel drivers aren't multithreaded, so they run on only core.

Samba, OpenVPN and other services are able to take advantage of the second core.
