OpenDNS DNS SRV record issue

mero

New Around Here
I just installed RT-AC66U_3.0.0.4_376.49_5 on my router, and found an odd issue where my SIP apps I develop for Android and iOS stopped working. They fail on the DNS lookup. The SRV record returns a result, but then following A record lookups never return.

When I disable OpenDNS and use my ISP DNS, everything works. It only fails when using OpenDNS servers on the router.

I went back to 3.0.0.4.376_3626 from ASUS, and verified that both with and without OpenDNS server, the DNS SRV lookups work as expected.

I've read that there can be issues with a dnsmasq option filterwin2k. But I looked at /tmp/etc/dnsmasq.conf and didn't see that option in there. Further I could not find a way to explicitly disable it.

OpenDNS can create a lot of weird problems. One big issue with OpenDNS is that it does not return proper NXDOMAIN responses. So if the client first tries to append the local domain to its query, instead of having the query fail and get retried without the local domain appended, it will return a bogus response.
