openvpn on asus merlin using power lines

ok, i am going to install asus merlin again and hard wire it to the isp router using these power lines,

1. Do i need to plug the isp LAN port into the N66u WAN port, then i just leave the N66U in router mode ?
2. Should i set the N66U subnet different to the isp router
3. I intend to then setup openvpn, will i need to forward a port to the isp router for it to work
4. Anything else i should do ?

I was looking at my ddns page and it was complaint about subnets and saying it's not available

Yes, or your public IP address.

Yes, that's why I said that you'll have to edit it manually.

Ok understood. How come many moons ago running the same router connected to a modem only, I didn't have to edit the .ovpn file, just curious.

Because you were connected to a modem only. In other words you didn't have a double-NAT setup (a router behind another router).

i checked the client1 key and my ddns info is already present, im not entirley sure i am understanding the port forward. So the N66u WAN port is wired to ISP router LAN port, which device am i entering the port forward on, currently if i connect to isp modem via its wifi i can access the N66u but not vice versa, the ISP router has issued the N66u with a WAN ip of 192.168.1.20 and the ISP IP address is 192.168.1.1, the LAN on the N66u is 192.168.11.xxx, not sure what info i should be adding to which router regarding ports etc as well.

This is what the DDNS page on N66u says..

The wireless router currently uses a private WAN IP address.

This router may be in the multiple-NAT environment and DDNS service cannot work in this environment.

You should create a port forwarding entry on the ISP router to forward UDP port 1194 (assuming you're using default settings) to 192.168.1.20.

That looks correct. If it's not working look for error messages in the VPN client's log file and also in the N66U's syslog.

Maybe I should export a new .ovpn file or reboot both routers
