Hi guys,

Simple question, but can't find the right answer. How to overclock the ac68U with the latest Rmerlin. 43 firmware. I know the cmd is gone and don't know how to do it now without it. Have latest bootloader so I know that I can't pass the 667mhz mem speed.

Thanks in advance.

In SSH;

Code:
nvram set clkfreq=1000,800
nvram commit

You can find more info here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Shell

You can enable it from Administration page, just dont enable SSH access from WAN (at least not on default 22 port).

Download program like putty (google it) and ssh to your local IP \ port you set in configuration.

To login use same user\pass you are using when connecting to router from WWW interface.

Good luck

If you want to push things to their limit, you can try to bump up the speed even further. Stock is 800/533 afaik and you are at 1000/800. Just want to let you know that I'm running 1100/800 without any issues for 2 months straight, maximum my router is capable of is about 1150 before wifi randomly starts to drop and do weird stuff. But keep in mind the temperatures, you can check them out on the "Tool" page if you're running Merlin's firmware :) Cheers.

Will try them out, but I have newest BL, then I can't get over the 800 ddr speed?

Whats your CFE/Bootloader version and HW revision?

Only 1100? Thats weird, almost every routers can reach at least 1200 and some even more, 1400 and 1600.

It would be interesting to see if your CFE is the "problem" or not?

Please take a look at this thread and please give me some information about CFE and HW Rev.

Thank you

1: Setting this in NVRAM does it require a reboot? Because I just SSH and changed mine to 1000,800
2: how can I see it on a GUI page? How can I tell if it worked at all?

1. Yes, you need to reboot first.
2. Type in: nvram get clkfreq and see the output.

Check your CFE version also at:

http://192.168.1.1/Tools_Sysinfo.asp

Or via Telnet/SSH:

nvram get bl_version

ok

admin@RT-AC68U:/tmp/home/root# nvram get clkfreq
1000,800
admin@RT-AC68U:/tmp/home/root#

I don't have 20 people streaming netflix so this just up's the CPU cycles to 1000 Mhz so it really doesn't do anything for us normal people?

I did it just to do it but I don't get what it will do.

It will speed up your router cpu and memory clock speed.

ok
so it's over clocked. This will improve what exactly?

That will improve your general performance on the router.

Whats your stock/default speed on the router?

800,533? or 800,667?

Thank you

I've been testing 1200 MHz again for two days and it has run flawlessly! It was an unrelated issue that made me think I couldn't overclock further, thanks! That's what happens when you purchase a new router and spend the whole weekend tweaking it :p

I might even try for 1300 MHz later on. 83 celsius cputemp is a safe temp for 24/7 operation?

The tools page tells me the following:
Bootloader (CFE) 1.0.1.6

I'm not quite sure how I can find my HW Rev.

That temperature is perfectly normal. About the HW revision you would need to open the router.

I don't want to open the router, but anyways, running with nvram set clkfreq=1300,800 so far without any problems for 3 hours :)

Try it at 1400 and see if you have any problem with it at that speed, i had one that worked at both speeds (1300,1400) but at 1400 was not stable.

That's weird because the speed will be exactly the same (bogomips, bencharksm etc etc)

I may bump mine to 1100, 800 but that's about it because I don't want problems
who has 1200, 800?
any problems going that speed for longer than a few days

I will be able to try 1400 in about 1-2 hours when the other other go to bed (so they don´t get annoyed by an eventual crash)

I've been running 1200,800 and it´s completely stable! 1300,800 too!

Edit: Does anyone know what AC66U can overclock to? I'm at 900,450,225 atm. and I want to push it to its limit since I will just buy the new AC87U if it breaks.

Edit #2: What makes you say that it runs at the same speed if you use 1300,800 and 1400,800?

I just decided that 1100,800 would do

ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4 Sat Jun 7 16:32:17 UTC 2014
admin@RT-AC68U:/tmp/home/root# cd //
admin@RT-AC68U:/# nvram set clkfreq=1200,800
admin@RT-AC68U:/# nvram commit
admin@RT-AC68U:/# nvram set clkfreq=1100,800

may do 1200,800 but I am going to be away and wife is not a techy person that wants to fix things, she just wants to turn on the computer and compute...:D
