Howdy. This looks quite interesting and may allow me to accomplish the following:
I have a spare Asus RT-N56U and would like to have it support several computers (without wifi) in a workshop I'm configuring. My home has an Asus RT-AC3200 wifi router that is beaming wifi throughout the home provided by Cox cable. However, it is not possible to run a ethernet cable from the AC3200 to the workshop. So, I'd like to have the N56U function as a wireless bridge to extend my LAN into the workshop via a wireless connection. I'd then plug an 8 port switch into the N56U to support the various devices in the workshop that have only hardwire network connections.

Is this possible with the Padavan firmware? If so, which particular file do I use? BASE, ARIA, TRMD, DLNA (what do these designations signify--I'm guessing DLNA allows streaming?). Since my N56U doesn't have the "B1" desigation I'm assuming I stay away from firmware that has the B1 in the title?

Any further advice on configuration once I have the proper firmware loaded?

Thanks in advance!

Hello here
I've bought a cheap Asus RT-N12+ rev.B1.I think it's identical with N11p rev.B1,and I tried from webinterface to flash it with these build https://n56u-v2.avh.od.ua/current/RT-N11P_B1/ but nothing happens.
Can someone point me to a newer build that I can flash it?
I don't mind trying untested firmware.
Thanks a lot!
Best Regards
LE: I've tried the firmware flashing with tftp using Firmware Restoration Tool and everything it's ok minus the leds.
Cheers

Padavan can definitely help. Checkout its extensive wiki which has a LOT of interesting bits: https://bitbucket.org/padavan/rt-n56u/wiki/EN/CommonTips
If you just want a wireless bridge, BASE is the way to go. Download it (or get the latest snapshot - which you can find in the wiki or with a quick google), flash it as you would a normal firmware and you're good to go.

You could raise an issue with Padavan - likely it just requires some missing configuration in the build to support the leds as well (fwiw, I tend to turn them off anyway).

Hi
Running RT-56U with Padavan BASE. The RT-56U is behind another router that is connected to the internet (so it's on it's own subnet). I have a guest AP setup which is isolated from the router's LAN but this is not isolated from the LAN of the parent router (since it is perceived as the WAN). I would like the guest AP to have straight through access to the internet whilst being isolated from the parent LAN also.
I see the guest AP is on interface rai1. I tried adding a firewall rule:
iptables -I FORWARD -i rai1 -d 192.168.1.0/24 -j DROP
(the destination is the parent LAN) but this did not work.
Any ideas how to do this?
Thanks

Is this firmware no longer being developed? Just picked up an rt65u for free.
I see the last build march 2016.

Can someone please tell me, has anything changed from this guide:

http://www.codyhiar.com/blog/vpn-all-your-traffic-with-asus-rt-n56u-padavan-private-internet-access/

I used the same firmware and hardware as the blog above. I think I have the VPN Client working but I don't
see a "connected" button by the host:

My IP address is still showing as that of my evil ISP.. There are no errors in the VPN log, but then again it does not tell me it worked. My intent is to have all the LAN ports automatically route traffic over this VPN and also to tell my ISP spying is unacceptable. Did I miss a step or mis-understand? Thanks in advance..

From a quick look, those bugs seem to deal with the web front-end of the ASUS firmware. But Padavan firmware uses its own web front-end, of totally different origin. So, I'm not sure those security warnings are relevant to Padavan firmware?

That said, fixes for certain other CVE security warnings have been merged into Padavan at various points in the past. Example: https://bitbucket.org/padavan/rt-n56u/commits/c07416b61742e81a7dc559cde83577619c88e1d8

Also, I am looking above and seeing a couple of requests for a VPN killswitch and they suggested it didnt work, can anyone advise if they managed to fix this and get a killswitch working correctly?

<snip>

I have Padavan running on a rarely used spare router so I'm not up to date on all the latest developments. I just saw that link. Are the builds at that site current? They have the same version numbers (3.4.3.9-099) as the March 2016 builds on BitBucket but they have current dates. Is this site now the official download site?

I am looking at the nightly builds and I notice a version not noted on your website what is different with RT-N56U_3.4.3.9-099_asavah.zip
