New Around Here
Ive been using the parental controls on my AC68 to control access for my son during the week. Ive discovered however that although the controls go into effect and block access, if he is connected at the time the connection remains persistent until he breaks it. No new connections can be made or restored when the block is in effect. The only way to disconnect is to reboot.

My previous Linksys allowed similar control as the ASUS but at the time the block went into effect it would drop the connection and send a notification to the user that they were unable to connect due to a time restriction.. The other feature I miss is the ability to disconnect individual devicesl.

Does anyone know of a solution to this it I can have an effective solution

yup thats how it works on almost all domestic routers

The only way to disconnect is to reboot.
yes if needed

i know these kids know about how the block works and start a game 5 minutes before the block and play as long a game as they can , mind you most games dont go past an hour so if your son doesnt choose to get off at around the allocated time simply set the block an hour earlier , he will soon figure out its better to get off when he should rather than get booted earlier

he other feature I miss is the ability to disconnect individual devicesl.
im pretty sure you can do this by going to the client list and selecting a device and its shows

Block Internet Access

Time Scheduling

MAC and IP address Binding

That is how it works...

New connections will be blocked, but existing connections will be open...

Don't use PC, but would setting the dhcp lease times to be low cause the rules to kick in on renewal?

I found 2 things that work.
1.)Disable NAT acceleration and it'll work how you wanted. Firmware 380.57 has an issue that breaks the 2.4ghz wi-fi if disable. So I only recommend that option if you're using the FW before it.

2.)Use telnet or SSH and spam the command that disconnect the device. Copy & Paste without the quotes. Replace the 11:22:33:44:55:66 with MAC id for the device you want to disconnect.
"2.4GHz
"wl deauthenticate 11:22:33:44:55:66"

5Ghz
"wl -i eth2 deauthenticate 11:22:33:44:55:66"

For an example the device I want to disconnect is on the 2.4ghz wifi.
I copy and paste "wl deauthenticate 11:22:33:44:55:66".
I use Putty to make the SSH connection.
I find spamming the command will get them to stop playing. I assume it kills the connection.
