As far as NAS is concern I would suggest QNAP because of its easy setup and easy creating packages with third party software. I am using it along with the third party software called Syncrify and I would say this is the best back up solution so far according to my needs.

TPLINK will be the best brand for switch.
ASUS AC1750 will be the best model
Really better then the AC88u or 87U?

I think the Cisco SG300 L3 switches are good. I have one SG300-28 bought off ebay cheap. It works great in layer 3 mode. I also have 3 Cisco WAP321 APs running in 5GHz mode for wireless with 2 SSIDs shared across the 3 WAPs for roaming. One SSID is LAN and the other is GUESS. These WAP321 also were bought cheap on ebay. These are small business class stuff and run solid 24/7. Not sure on the router as there are plenty of play stations and Xboxes. Probably need something you can program. Maybe ER- light?

PS
I might consider building a separate VLAN for the NAS and share ports across the VLANs. I had a music server infected because it did not have realtime antivirus running.

the asus ac88u is better because it has a faster CPU and newer generation chip that works unlike the ac78U. The ac1750 is the AC56U which is a budget version if you only need CPU and features and not the extras or wifi that the AC88u has.

Has anybody tried the RT-AC5300 ?

Also I'm going to be adding Security NVR system with 1080p IP cameras

the AC3200 is 2x the AC68U, so the AC5300 is 2x the AC88U in terms of wifi. So for density it helps when you need the bandwidth for more devices (dont forget to bond the ethernet ports).

Hmmm welll it looking like the 5300 maybe over kill as for the most part my devices will be wired. do you think the 88u paired with the ProSAFE® 24-port Fast Ethernet Smart Switches with 2 Gigabit uplinks would be enough for my set up plus the nvr ?

are you designing a network with fast ethernet or gigabit ethernet? It sounds like you're using 100Mb/s ports with 2 1Gb/s ports switch. The AC88U will be fine

yeah if you can get gigabit ethernet it would be a lot better. If you were in the UK i could sell you my GS724T for really cheap with a modified fan. The only thing that doesnt work for it is jumbo frames.

For home use I would go with a TP-Link gigabit switch before I would use a higher end switch that was only fast ethernet. I use 6 different TP-Link switches at my home and they have been flawless.
