Hello,
I hope I am at the right place with my problem.
I have a following setup:
A computer running Plex Media Server and PIA VPN client.
A NAS holding my media (photos, music, MKVs).
ASUS RT-N66U router, in wired config only.
iPhone for accessing it all.
So my basic wish is to have the PIA connected on the computer and use PLEX to transcode movies to my iPhone in real time. As I have found out just now, there are problems with PIA service and PLEX, as it doesn't work with port forwarding. In fact, when I turn off PIA, PLEX is working fine.
I am not sure how PLEX is exactly working, I was under impression it is a local server, but why do I need myPlex account?... alright:
So I thought of an idea to circumvent the need for port forwarding, and enabled VPN on my RT-N66U, so I VPN'd into my home network, and was successful at connecting to my main computer via Samba. Fine.
The prerequisite setting for this is on the iPhone "Send All Traffic".
And this exactly creates a problem: if I enable this, I can access a share, but cannot surf any more. There is a missing link, and I have no idea what to search for...?
However, even if I disable PIA on the computer, and connect through VPN with Send All Traffic checked, I can't connect to the Plex server by telling it to connect to my >computer-LAN-IP< + PLEX-port. Unchecking Send All Traffic doesn't help also.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Now, I think it would be first and vital thing to resolve, why isn't there WAN access on the iPhone while connected to the RT-N66U through VPN and "Send All Traffic" is set?
Rest I'll post on the Plex forums, maybe they can clear up how Plex actually connects to the network.
Many thanks,
Kosta
