New Around Here
I use GRCs Shields Up! service on a regular basis to test my security, and after changing the way my network was setup last night, I noticed that port 445 was open and not stealthed.
Normally my system runs through the ISP router, then Ethernet to the AC68u where I am doing DHCP for my network and the port is closed and shows my system as stealth.
Recently I put the Asus router into the DMZ on the ISP router and all was still good, except I was getting double NAT warnings on DDNS and both Xbox360s. Nothing else was complaining, so I left it.
However, I decided to try disabling DHCP on the ISP router last night for some reason and then Shields Up! reported port 445 as open.
I have switched everything back and have DHCP turned on on both routers.
My network seems to be using the ASUS IP addresses (they are slightly different), and everything works (except for double NAT).
SO does the Asus AC68u not shield port 445 or do I need to rely on the ISP router for that?
Further, if I disable DHCP on the Asus, that should clear up double NAT situations, correct?
Given that, am I better to set the Asus router from Wireless Router mode to Access Point and keep all the devices connected to it?
Thanks again, just trying to understand the more involved networking and teach myself something as I go.
