i finally got my server so it could be viewable from outside my system. is there something im missing on the settings because when try to get to my site to edit it tries to open my router gui.

winxp, apache, and rt-n66u running with 155 fw

any help is appreciated. why did they put the interface on port 80????

Hello,

please check advanced settings -> firewall -> general -> Enable Web Access from WAN? "NO"

also check your port forwarding ip adress or did you set your server in dmz?

This is a home-user device. They all use port 80 for the web management interface because a lot of home user wouldn't know how to access the configuration interface if it was on a non-standard port (and DNS interception like Asus uses wouldn't work either).

You won't be able to access your website it from the inside. You will have to directly access your web server. Simplest method is to modify your Windows "host" file to point www.yoursitename.com to the internal IP of your webserver. That way it will be transparent to you.

Hello,

from inside, home network for sure. But from WAN the configuration interface ,like he discribes, shouldn't be accessible. I think he has not understood port forwarding to his server and opened port 80 to his router and not for his server.

Howdy,
That is standard practice for an advanced router with features such as ftp server. The same thing applies to the asuscomm.com DDNS setup.

Here is some information from asus support port forwarding
Static IP assigned to server, forward tcp port 80 to that ip. done

ok as in my original post i have apache sites visible to outside. i can log into them on my android without wifi. so port forwarding is set up correctly. i have never had a router or gaming router that didnt let me work on my pages. they all let me get to my pages internally EVEN gaming routers. this one just restarts the router. i have had 5 routers in the last 10 years and they all worked as they should. if this is how this one is supposed to work then it is worse then my crappy dlink and ill be sending it back.

If the router flat out reboots then there is indeed a bug and it's not just a configuration problem on your part.

Out of curiosity, see if the same issue happens with my custom builds. I fixed something in it that was causing the router to reboot for me in various different situation related to routing - maybe it's the same reason that make it reboot for you.

ok there is a reason why they call you merlin...you are a god! i bow down to you. i will never flash another fw but yours. it works slick as snot!!!

i flashed beta 11 and i like it.

lots of trouble i was having before i could even get my server visible outside the network was because i didnt power cycle it. so if anyone is having problems with things not showing up correctly please powercycle. then i couldnt log onto my own site from my own system and merlin saved the day.

again thanks so much merlin. if you ever need someone to test something ill be here. just ask.

ok just found another issue? when i turn on my wifi on my android im unable to view my sites? is that a different table?

hmmm not able to get anywhere actually. just power cycled the router and still same. ill play around a bit more.

So switching to my firmware resolved your router reboot issues? In that case, it's the same bug that was also causing my VPN and my wifi clients to crash here with Asus's original firmware - enabling network GRO support is a major source of crashes on this router, and just disabling this option in the firmware greatly increased its stability.

wifi

ok everything is working correctly for the port 80 issue. your fw was the key merlin.

next issue is now the wifi. my phone gets no data on wifi on any of the settings. on both 10 and 11 of your fw. is there a wifi issue i am not getting? i mean NO data at all. my poor evo3d grinds to a screeching halt lol

wifi is not a deal breaker for me at this point but it would be nice to get it going asap specially since i have google tv and some other things id like to run.

ill go try my gtv and see if that has an issue also. maybe its just my phone? ... ... ... confirmed no data.

ok wifi does connect but gets no data on all my wifi setups here.

:confused::confused::confused:

yes it did fix that very nicely :) dont know what GRO support is but your the boss ill just agree lol

hmmmm im getting the feeling that GRO messes with wifi.....

What GRO is is a technology that improves network performance. The firmware only enables GRO support when you have a drive plugged on the router, which explains why not everyone was getting all those random crashes. I just disabled that option while compiling the firmware, so while LAN performance might suffer a bit, it's still better than having the router reboot randomly on you.

For Wifi, check the usual: encryption type, MAC access list, etc... Start with the basics by totally disabling encryption and ensuring it's working.

thanks for the explanation in layman terms. tried googling it but it was mostly techno babble to me lol.

i put my router on open network and i could still connect but no data at all. tried different authentication methods and everything...still no data. what did i do wrong????

That might be an Android bug - I've seen issues where Android devices cache DNS entries, and have issues with multiple PDP contexts (3G vs. WiFi) - try putting the device into airplane mode, and if your WanIP address resolves, it should work... after that try power cycling the device, and worst case, and I don't recommend it, a factory reset on the android, as you can lose your data...

If you set the android device to wifi off, does it resolve the site on 3G?

all my wifi devices do this so not just the phone. they connect to the router but they get no data. they are added on the router and they have their own ip....still no data. went from merlins 11 to 10 back to 11 nothing changed. will try the asus fw tomorrow to see if its merlins fw or not. gonna use this thing as a fishing lure if it doesnt start acting right lol

ok just installed 155 and its still the same. i think the wifi burned out??? calling asus tomorrow.

called asus and they said i have a faulty device. sending it back to newegg for another one....fml

Strange that they didn't attempt to have you run the latest stable firmware (.112) before doing any troubleshooting. .155 isn't officially released so you should probably be expecting some problems while trying to use it. I'm not saying .112 doesn't have its own problems, but while doing tech support if I encounter beta or dev software I usually try to find a stable channel of the same software before suggesting a return.

Either way, I'm sure that in the end you'll end up with a working product.
