Hi

I have forwarded ports 5000:5006 to be open on my Synology NAS

However I cannot connect to the ports from the Internet, if I check using Open Port Checker then it shows the port closed.

If I check all the other ports I have forwarded they are all the same CLOSED, can someone help me with what I am doing wrong

Does the IP address you are checking (82.9.x.x in the picture above) match the address shown in the router's web interface (Network Map > WAN IP)?

Strange.

Router model? Firmware version?

Who is your ISP? What device is the WAN port of the router connected to (cable modem, router, etc.)?

Have you changed any of the settings on the router from their default values (i.e. NAT or firewall)?

Are you running any custom scripts or third party software (i.e. entware, ad-blocking)?

A service must be running on one or more of the ports in order for "port check websites" to report it as open. If you have nothing running, they'll report it as closed

RT-AC86U, 384.4

Virgin UK, WAN connected via bridge mode from Virgin Super Hub

NO

NO

Just have to ask to make sure....
- Did you remember to enable port forwarding in addition to adding the rules (first set of radio buttons)?
- Are you running through a VPN? Then you will need to access via the VPN address, and even then many VPN providers will block all but a few standard ports.

Yes port forwarding is on, I have VPN running to the NAS, however if I try and access other ports to devices not on VPN they are blocked too.

Try disabling the VPN to see if that makes a difference.

I'm not sure whether you're referring to a VPN client or server, and whether it's running on the router or the NAS. If it's on the router I would class that as changing "any of the settings on the router from their default values".

You posted here that you were having major router problems when you enabled UPnP. Was that resolved? If not then it might suggest a more widespread problem/misconfiguration with the router. Did you post the syslog as requested in the other thread?

The only change I have made is by having VPN for Client I am not running a server. The UPNP problem is still there, if I turn UPNP on the router, the whole router comes to a standstill, and until I turn it off nothing works. This is why I am doing manual port forwarding.

As @john9527 mentioned above, if you have configured your router so that all of the traffic from the NAS goes through the VPN client then port forwarding won't work. Turn off the VPN client and try again.
