I was wondering if I could use an existing configuration back up file from an ASUS router and use it in a different model, however both are running the same Merlin f/w.

In case there are any limitations, the 'source' router is an AC66, the 'destination' router is either an AC56 or AC68.

Thanks!

it's generally recommended to start from scratch just moving between firmwares on the same model; i doubt trying to port a configuration from one device to another is a good idea unless you are a scripting wizard

Don't do that. The settings contain hardware-specific information, including MAC addresses.

I recommend you export your settings to a text file, and manually import the most important settings. Export:

Code:
nvram show | sort > /mnt/sda1/settings.txt

(adjust the path to match your USB disk)

A reply from the 'man himself'. That settles it :) Thank you, RMerlin.
(This means one could/should technically not even use this config file import method when swapping routers of the very same model. Interesting to know.)
