The glue is what holds the banner at the top of the page. Cheap glue, so the header starts falling off.

Just put the router on a 6-pack of Moose Drool and the glue will be held together until tomorrow.

I'd have said Guinness but I already drank those. The router will have to deal with something made by Cannucks since Merlin is from there.:D

The date check is done in the state.js Javascript file at the moment it generates the main webui layout (like 400 here: https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/blob/master/release/src/router/www/state.js)

If the date is April 1st, then the banner gets assigned the "banner41" ID instead of the regular "banner" ID, which will apply a different CSS to it.

The gradual fall and glow change is entirely done by CSS.
Good one! fishy webui!
Code:
<% nvram_get("webui_fishy"); %>
I was searching for glue or fool on github. But no, it's fishy.

Using Chrome it was hilarious!!! For all the work you do here I can see where you might need some comic relief.

This really made me think something was wrong since my internet was out this morning.

I figured it had to have been some sort of joke.... just poorly timed on my part :)

Heart dropped

Logged into my router to check on my IP camera and it happened to me! My fear motor kicked in I thought I had been hacked, I instantly came here to make sure...

LOL others may not appreciate the humor, but I sure did. :) thanks for making me shirt my pants.

I forget to say that the blue gradient is very nice (you should keep it for the next version :) )

I was indeed tempted. It would make it more easily recognizable as Asuswrt-Merlin rather than stock. Currently the only visual cues are the presence of the Tools menu, and the subscript "merlin build" next to the version.

i agree with propergol, it would be a nice touch. maybe run a poll and see what kind of response you get?

(assuming he meant the orange gradient)

[edit/] i forgot it was black at the top, but i like the orange, myself :)

omg merlin you dick! :D

LOL I saw that happen and was like... "WTF?"

Then I saw your post. Is this why they call you Merlin? :D That was a good one. I'm afraid of what may happen on Halloween...

"My router is broken, and it can't get up!"

unfortunately, enough people have been outspoken with their disapproval of this harmless prank to convince RMerlin not to try something like this again. i, however, think it's a good idea.

no matter what product you are using, there's always somebody in the world having computer or network troubles and for them this is fuel to the fire.

Is it really appropriate to bash Merlin in this thread when he was just having some lighthearted fun? He works on this firmware in his spare time and asks nothing in return.

I think its common knowledge to never trust the internet on April first, that's unless those spaghetti trees in Switzerland are real after all and Merlin is at the center of a government coverup!

More seriously though I saw this in the github changelog a few weeks ago and can assure everyone that nothing 'malicious' was done besides a few lines of CSS. Very surprised at how many people fell for it, I think it was a great success

The funniest part is that if people used the search function they would have saved themself a-lot of time worrying, maybe Merlin can do this for every other topic that gets repeated 20 times on these forums ;)

P.S I heard a rumor on 4/20 rather then the banner falling it flys away into the clouds :p

That was simply awesome. Most creative April fools prank I've seen in some time.
Thanks Merlin for all you hard work.

Scared the crap out of me

I about lost it in my drawers, thought for sure someone had reverse engineered the code and found a vulnerability that allowed them to deface my router and do who knows what else.

Glad to know this is an April fools prank.

Thanks again for the excellent firmware. Haven't been this happy in a router for awhile. Now I need to figure out if I can get internal computers to be able to see port forwards on the front end with this firmware. I can live without it at home but have a business that needs a router.

I commend you. Logged in and saw the banner drop and IMMEDIATELY thought April fools (seriously, what scary hacker is going to "stealthily" break into your router and program the banner to slowly fall!!!)

Some people are just too dense.

Bravo
