Powered USB Hub and RT-AC87U

Jack Yaz

Part of the Furniture
Would a powered USB 2.0 hub work, for connection of a hard drive and memory stick? The USB 3 port has a 3G dongle attached currently. Looking to use the hard drive as data storage, and a memory stick as swap, as I notice samba is using a lot of the router's memory!

USB2 hub on the USB2 port should be safe...

Most of the challenges with AsusWRT and USB are USB3 related with hubs and combined devices...

Generic USB2 hub working flawless with several devices attached here.
Sticks, HDD, SSD, no problem.

Is yours mains powered or bus powered? The HDD I'd be using on it has its own supply, I'd just be plugging in 1 memory stick to it in addition

Mains, the router only has limited output.
Keep them separate, I believe this has been discussed in other threads.

So have HDD and memory stick not on the same hub? Would memory stick and 3G dongle on the same hub be OK, and then the HDD on the USB 3?

That depends on the power supply of your hub.
For a while I had an SSD on the USB3 port of my AC87U but have since moved it to the hub as I don't really need the speed and feared interference with WiFi.
I have a stick (sometimes two), an SSD and a HDD on that USB2 hub.
