PPTP VPN server and client won't work at same time.

I have an RT-AC68U with Merlin firmware
3.0.0.4.374.39. For a long time I've been running
the PPTP client with no problems. Now I got an iphone
and wanted to use VPN at wifi hotspots. But the vpn
server doesn't respond to incoming connections when
the vpn client is connected to a server. I tried also to
upgrade to the latest Merlin firmware but it made no
difference so I switched back to my old firmware. Is there something I need to do to get this to work?
