New Around Here
I would appreciate some help, I'm a newbie with a soft underbelly.

I have a Asus RT-AC66U router, I have flashed from Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 Beta 1 to Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 Beta 2. After firmware upgrade,
I get a message to "reboot manually" I did that, but unfortunate I'm locked out of my router, Wan and home network not working, I think it's bricked!

I'm unable to reset, hard reset the router, pressing the reset does nothing, LED's remain lite. However, I can put the router in recovery mode to use Asus firmware restoration utility, I can upload Asuswrt-Merlin or Asus stock firmware but after upgrade I get a message "failed to recover firmware"

Is there something I can try.

You need to do some sit ups for that soft belly. :)

It will make the time go by while you wait (up to an hour or more) for the firmware restoration utility to actually do it's work.

Patience will pay off (and give you a harder belly).

Hooray, Hooray, I have chubby to go with my soft underbelly!

Clearing the NVRAM did the trick. Reverted back to RT-AC66U_378.54_2 for the time being.

I run into same issue with the released version of the firmware on my RT-AC56U. The firmware upload was success and asked to reboot manually even though my network connection was back on but I went with the given onscreen instruction and power cycled my router and it's bricked. Only power led lids in steady state and there is no way to put it into the rescue mode. I've been trying everything for a few hours and nothing. 30/30/30 reset and trying put into the rescue mode nothing. 30/30/30 reset via WPS/Reset buttons both pressed. Nothing attached to the back of the unit other than single network cable to the my laptop that is set it up to static IP 192.168.1.12. No ping no nothing happening. What is my options? any guidance will be much appreciated

Sorry hear about your problem. This is what I did to get my router going.
  1. Power off the RT-AC56U
  2. Press and hold down the WPS button
  3. While holding the WPS button, plug in the power cable to turn RT-AC56U on
  4. Keep holding the WPS button for 30 seconds before releasing The router should reboot
then flash with merlin RT-AC66U_378.55_0 preform a reset then configure the router.

My router has been working without any issues. In hindsight, I should have preformed a reset after initial RT-AC66U_378.55_0 flashing.

Thank you for your response. I just tried what you said but no luck for me. It's stuck same way. power led stays on. It seems going through reboot cycles. When I hook a network cable on the speed/activity led came on stay on for awhile then in a minute or so speed/activity leds of all of the ports lid up and go away. I also tried the ARP -s 192.168.1.1 MAC of the router but still the same. I don't know what else I can try

Sometimes the nvram of the AC56U can become corrupted. If none of the standard recovery/nvram erase procedures work, the only way to recover is opening up the router and connecting a serial TTL cable. See the following thread.....

Thank you John9527 that was what I afraid of but seems I'll have to break the seals of the box. It was running with no problem I don't know why I had to mess with it :)
