Hi
My n/w is 2 PCs upstairs in the "office" and a wifi laptop connected to a 10/100 router but I plan to eventually upgrade to gigabit.
Reading all the threads and tests on SNB I was undecided whether to buy a ReadyNas Duo Rnd2120 with 4TB now or wait and save up a bit more for the Qnap TS-219p.
I did some phoning around and have been offered an HP MediaSmart Server EX490 1TB for the same price as the TS-219 with no drive.
The Qnap gets great reviews, and I can manage with 1TB for now, but so too does the EX490 and I am leaning towards it.
If I have understood the NAS charts correctly the HP will give me better speeds in the long term when I gp gigabit. and it support more drives than I will probably ever need.
I dont need raid.
So, simply put are there any reasons NOT to go for HP EX490?
Bit more info:
In a previous life my day job was IBM mainframe networking so learning to configure a server etc doesn't phase me too much !!! I hope
I am now a therapist and it would be useful to be able to host my own small website from which clients can download pdf files and small audio files.
I will be the only local User - and I'd like to be able to access documents and photos remotely from any Internet PC.
I hope that makes sense - thanks for reading - ANY help / advice very welcome and most appreciated.
Graham
