Hi All,
This my first time on a NAS forum so please excuse me if i break any etiquette!
So I after much research (whcih frankly has confused me and made me tear my hair out!) I have come down to a choice of two NAS's. 1. The QNAP TS 419P or 2. the Thecus N4200.
I am leaning towards the QNAP however I do see that the Thecus in terms of raw performance (and hardware spec) seems to trump the QNAP on almost every measure. Whislt this is the case, the AJAX based software on the QNAP is very appealing.
I will be purely a home user just to store/move around file in the home network over gigabit ethernet setup. I will also want to stream HD 1080P movies to my PS£ and this i will want to be seamless and no buffering! I have read somewhere that the Qnap can sometimes suffer when fastforwarding or reqinding the streamed video.
I know that if I had the QNAP then i would be extrememly happy (for now) but my worry is that later down the track as file sizes become bigger and movies become higher def due to the lower hardware spec of the QNAP I will suffer??? I.e. is it worth getting the Thecus N4200 understanding that the software right now isn't as friendly but that after some time and firmware upgrades might become on a par as to what the QNAP software is now? (Right now i think where the QNAP AJAX software is, is all i would ever need?)
Also is it possible to have a bittorrent client in The THecus and also twonkey media, again the QNAP come with these things built in?
Any help will be great. I really want to get a NAS v soon and am now very close but some user or pro feedback would be great.
My budget is around 400 and i know i can get both of these models within that.
