Question/Help with FIOS and Moca

Hello. I just moved into a new house but I bought it after it was already done and have to deal with builder's choice of running cables.

Its a 3 floor townhouse and builder ran 5 coax drops and 5 cat5e drops. All drops terminate in my garage which is where FIOS will come in as well.
Since i can't run any more drops I'm thinking of using MOCA. I'm getting FIOS triple play installed on December 18th and want to prepare for the installation.

My living room has one coax run and in living room I will have my htpc with ceton pcie tuner. I need to bring Ethernet as well as coax to that location over one coax cable run.

Now I've read up on MOCA and FIOS and it seems that it will work but problem is i want them to run RJ45 connection from ONT to FIOS router not coax. From my understanding if this is done then my actiontec router will not function as Moca bridge? as a contingency if this is indeed true I also ordered actiontec moca bridge kit from amazon so I can use that. I'm just not sure how and where to place splitters or diplexers.

I never had FIOS installed before so I'm not really sure on how to configure this setup to enable coax TV as well as Moca signal to get to my living room over same coax cable?

My networking part is setup and I'm pretty familiar with that part. Only moca is a bit hazy.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

On the Actiontec MI424WR, the settings for Moca bridge and coax internet connection are separate. On my Actiontec unit it's listed as "Broadband Connection (Coax)", and it's currently disabled. I'm currently using mine only as a Moca bridge and ethernet switch.

So you will be able to have your MI424WR on the coax (as a Moca bridge) and still be able to use the ethernet WAN port to connect to the ONT (the outside fiber box).

As I recall, the STBs get listings and video on demand over Moca, so it's necessary anyway.

You shouldn't need any diplexers. Verizon will probably replace the current main splitter with one that is Moca capable.

Don't forget you will need a Moca terminal in the living room.

I won't have any STBs as I use media center with extenders. So I will only have one cablecard from Verizon

so even though I will use rj45 run from ONT to actiontec Verizon will also connect coax run to actiontec as well which will enable moca network?

I already bought 2 actiontec bridges in preparation so i will have one in my living room. If i understand this correctly i will use moca bridge in my living room to connect RG6 from wall plate into IN connection and then use out connection to feed my Ceton tuner? or will i need to split the signal from wall plate and use one RG6 to feed moca bridge and 2nd one to feed my ceton tuner?


in my case i actually want to use actiontec as my router but via rj45 connection so i won't have another router there for now.

Yeah it should be just fine. All that has to be done (which the Verizon installer might do) is disable the broadband coax connection.

You've got it right the first time. The Moca bridge can be in series with your Ceton.

I already connected 2 actiontecs to test out and they work perfectly. Plug and play and my computer in living room is not able to see computers in my office. no issues with streaming files. Now the wait for fios install

Thanks for your help. FIOS was installed yesterday and everything is working just as intended.

had the tech run rj45 to router and ONT coax to splitter with one leg going to router. Only small issue is that i got REV F router instead of I. So my lan connection is 100 instead of gigabit. going to try to get rev I from verizon

We're in an ex-AT&T monopoly area, not ex-GTE.
