So does the R7000 need to be in router mode in order to find firmware updates? My bridged R7000 currently has V1.0.4.30_1.1.67, but isn't able to find new firmware. If not, have there been multiple firmware versions removed from availability? My broadcasting R7000 has V1.0.5.48_1.1.79 and I keep keeping the notification that a new version is available, but nothing is ever found.

Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Where do you see 1.0.5 firmware? I don't see anything newer than 1.0.4.30.

Anton

There was a new firmware released but Netgrear removed it due to many issues with it. The latest stable version is the one you are running. Much more information on this in the Netgear nighthawk routers forum.

There were issues with V1.0.5.48, so reason it was pulled.

V1.0.4.30 is the current public version.

Will check status regarding updates.

Thanks! I see from the forum(s) that there was a v1.0.6 released and pulled as well.

Hmmm...I generally download the latest Netgear firmware, but don't use it, except for reference very rarely. Looks like I should dump 1.0.5 (2 of them) and the 1.0.6...wonder what's going on there?

On the other hand, Kong's dd-wrt is working really well on my R7000 as we speak *smile*.

Yeah I think I may check that out as our wireless has a been a bit spotty since 1.0.5 got installed.

As for the last two firmware versions getting pulled, it does seem a little odd.

Isn't it nice to have a Netgear representative on this forum!? Too bad other manufactures see no need to have direct contact with their end users.

There's also representatives from Asus and Linksys on the forums.

The only asus rep on this forum (Channer) I know of last logged in February 2015. Is there someone else? Over a year ago I would not call participation, unless there is someone else I don't know of?

There are at least two engineers (Rawny and Vanic), and two people at management/sales level (Asuswrt_Asuswrt and another one who's remaining anonymous). Check the Asuswrt sub-forum, they post beta firmwares from time to time, and ask people for feedback. Most of them last posted maybe 1 or 2 months ago.

Understood Asus had a rep, but wasn't aware about Linksys...

Bobsilver. I don't know what's his actual position with them however.

I think it's great to have all of your guys around keeping in touch with the community. I know that many users appreciate it.

What does the new firmware add/fix? I just put my R7000 back in production after testing out another manufacturer's router (an AC-3100) and saw no tangible boost to performance on my network (thank you Best Buy for having a 45-day return policy!).

Side question - will the AC1900 range extender boost performance for my wifi-enabled Xbox One and PS4 (Xbox is using the 5Ghz network and the PS4 is stuck on 2.4). They're about 70 feet from the router (router is in office and consoles are in the living room a few walls away but the house is modern construction (no concrete to pass through).

I've had good luck with V1.0.5.44_1.1.77. It's been working great for months, even after having new steel siding put on the house & separate garage.

Much Appreciated! It's nice having a dedicated Netgear rep just for this forum.
Theoretically it should be, but engineering seems to be in ZERO rush to get back to NetGear Guy on this.
