R7000 firmware questions

Status is that v1.0.6.28 was withdrawn due to a stability issue.

No exact ETA, but engineering are working to QA and re-release ASAP.

Why does it take so long for Netgear to update their firmware? I set up a R7000 at my parents house, which is working fine on 1.0.4.30, but have been following R7000 firmware threads and it just seems that there is very little sense of urgency coming from the developers.

BTW, NETGEAR Guy, thanks for your input here. Much better than the official Netgear forums.

QA is the long pole in the tent, always has been - and it's not an intentional delay.

Devices are so complicated these days, and depending on the number of changes, QA will make some decisions on what tests cases need to be run...

Be patient...

I don't bother with stock firmware from Netgear anymore. They take forever to update it and the ugly UI looks like a webpage from the year 1999.

I was using DD-WRT but I switched to Advanced Tomato which has stronger Wifi on 5ghz and the UI is beautiful.
 
Thanks Screwdriver...QA can be a time consuming process...but there will be a stock FW update very soon...
 
Am running V1.0.6.28_1.1.83 on my and i have it in AP mode without any problem, wath problem are you refer to in this FW in Router mode?
 
Netgear has QA? Seeing how many times they've pulled back a release because of issues doesn't give me much confidence in their "QA" process (not talking just about the R7000)
 
They are testing firmwares... thats all I can say.
 
Not exactly a new world's record, but I've had XVortex asuswrt (port of RMerlin's firmware, 380.58) up on the R7000 for going on 18 days now, and it's doing great. Great performance, consistent wireless. No reason to look for better firmware, which for me is saying something *smile*.
 
The signal is stronger and more improved at the 2.4GHz WiFi then before.


I did load the Beta firmware on one of my R7000's (in AP mode). Had it running for a couple of days Did some testing with it. Streamed some 4k video, and some of HD simultaneously. Was stable. But I back reverted to the XVortex firmware that RogerSC identified (380.58). I find the wifi a little bit stronger in 380.58. Then there's that uninspiring UI that Netgear produces...

I heard from someone at Netgear that they're working on a brand new UI overhaul. No info on when it'll be released and if older devices will get it.

Hopefully it's not just polishing the chrome, and include some useful/meaningful changes under the hood..

The only thing that annoys me is that bootings after each small change you make in the settings, should it be that way?
 
Well I manage to get the V1.0.6.28_1.1.83, and after I have read this tread, it all makes sense.

The stability of the network is what bothers me most right now, looking forward to a new firmware.

I got 2 R7000, with one setup as AP.

I think it's great to have all of your guys around keeping in touch with the community. I know that many users appreciate it.


My role with Netgear (is as an independent contractor) was initially to monitor and support the Audio Video related forums for Netgear, principally the AVS forum. Netgear grew my role and has me monitor SNB, Toms Hardware, Cnet and several other forums for user activity. I provide feedback back to Netgear for issues and user feedback as well as provide help and suggestions where I can. As I got involved with SNB it became clear due to the active and technical nature of this group Netgear should assign a Netgear Employee who has better engineering insight then I can provide. Also by creating a dedicated Netgear Forum we could further that effort. So Netgear Guy is focused primarily on the Netgear Forum in SNB and I and others around the globe follow the other user forums.
