R7000 vs RT-AC68U - Confused Consumer

Yes, but with a 1Ghz CPU vs 800Mhz for the regular version.

While the RT-AC68P was the first RT-AC68 with a 1GHz. CPU, I've heard that the newest RT-AC68U's also have the 1GHz. CPU now.
 
AC68P FCC ID is MSQ-RTAC68UV2 note the V2.

Just get the AC68P.
 
I've read about a version C1 that's supposed to be coming out. Is it out yet? Should one wait for the newer version or is the version B1 good enough? I'm not in any rush as my e4200 v1 is still working.

Revision B1 is fine. They are already using 1 GHz CPUs lately, I don't think there's anything to gain from a revision C1. Different CPU revision but same clock.

Estimated availability was early February back when I was first briefed on that new model. Entirely depends on how fast suppliers sell their existing inventory however.
 
Comparing RT-AC68U and R7000 I noticed on performance chart comparison for these two routers that R7000 has much better range coverage for 5GHz.
Moreover, it shows better uplink and downlink for bigger distances in 2.4 GHz.
In other words in 5GHz the R7000 looks clearly much better then RT-AC68U.
And for big household (2-3 floors) with mostly only 2.4GHz gadgets, based on mentioned results, R7000 looks again better than RT-AC68U.
Am I correct here or I am missing something?

Controlled performance testing allows us to compare different hardware directly and your conclusions based on that small part of router ownership would be correct.

What you may be missing (depending on your environment, usage and future needs) is the fact that Asus supports their routers for a very long time after introduction. Not only by adding new features when and where they can, but also by issuing firmware to fix the next security threat that remains undiscovered today.

In addition, RMerlin's contributions (not only to us, but to Asus themselves; they've implemented RMerlin's code many times so far in their stock firmware) and the forks based off of RMerlin's work is another benefit that can potentially far outweigh any performance improvements that may be present only for the initial testing period for one router or another.

If you need the maximum performance at any cost (including security threats that may never be addressed, ever), you have your answer in the charts.

If you need the best overall router to protect your digital front door until you decide it is time to retire it, you now have that answer too. ;)
 
I'm trying to understand why the Asus 68U is ranked second on the router ranker and the 68P is ranked 9th. Am I missing something? I thought they were essentially the same? The router is on sale again at Best Buy.

i will say that a house that big would not cope well with a single transmission as even 2.4 gig will have big losses , far better to run ethernet and a second access point on another floor
 
Could the throughput have been changed with the B1 revision to the 68P?
Good point. I can see the confusion, they're documented as the same device yet they have different ratings?

Yes, from the links Pete posted they had different throughputs.

On a side note, I'm reading the issues that people are having with the 2.4ghz band. I know very little about setting up networks, the last time I did it I let the linksys software do it for me. Are the problems with normal set up or is it related to another function with the router.
