R7800 Dynamic QoS?

Mak

New Around Here
I just purchased a new Nighthawk R7800 and it's been a great router so far. I started exploring QoS features on my R7800 and wanted to know whether the dynamic QoS option should be used or not. Just a quick background, I have a 130/15 connection and have 3 laptops, three phones, an Xbox One, two fire sticks, and two chromecasts connected to the network.

Mak, that is a new unit so your probably one of the first to own it.
If you want to turn on the dynamic qos and report back to us then that's a great idea.

I turned on QoS and I haven't seen a difference in performance yet. I was wondering whether dynamic QoS on other Nighthawks has made any difference for other users.

Try speed test with and without QoS.

Try speed test with and without QoS.
I just performed a speed test with my iPhone 6s with QoS on: 95/11 and without: 51/12. I could not believe that turning off QoS could reduce my download by over 40 Mbps so I turned it back on and tested 71/11. Not sure if these tests are definitive or indicate anything.

Indeed. Your test results make no sense.

QoS is intended to improve latency, not throughput.

You have a different problem.

Dynamic QoS indeed does not affect the WAN bandwidth. It's a unique feature that automatically recognises many devices (media players, gaming consoles, smart TVs) and applications (streaming, gaming) and dynamically allocates WAN bandwidth used by those streams. This ensures that, for given WAN bandwidth, gaming gets lowest latency, streaming least buffering, while latency insensitive applications such as BitTorrent get least bandwidth..
