You're really missing the point here, or, you're really clueless.

Regardless of the resolution used to render, writing to disk is required.

Unless you have a TB+ of RAM to play with during video editing, you're writing to disk. Period.

We've gone off the rails here - going back to OP's question about RAID5/6...

I still recommend RAID10 for an 8-disk array - and this goes to how MDADM/LVM works in the real-world...

RAID10 on the LAN with 10Gbe - this is the best solution, yes, you lose a bit of storage, but you get this back with read/write and stability...

as OP is more concerned with remote - I would still go with RAID10...

@FixItInPost you make some good points LAN side, but OP is asking about the WAN access...
