I am looking for a NAS with 2x1TB. I se a lot of companies offering them, but will they let me set op the RAID as a want. I need 200GB as mirrored RAID 1 for important data, and the rest as space, either as one disk or two.
I also need FTP.
The NAS´s im looking at are:

Iomega Storcenter Ix2-200 Network Storage
Buffalo LinkStation Duo
Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo LS-W2.0TGL/R1
Seagate BlackArmor NAS 220
LaCie 2big Network ( a bit more pricy )

There is no NAS I know of that will let you set up parts of drives in separate volumes.

Option is maybe to use Ubuntu Server on a DIY box because Linux RAID uses partitions on disks instead of disks. Usually 1 disk is 1 partition, but that is not necessarily so. Create a 2 disk / 2 partition RAID1 array, after that create partitions on remaining diskspaces and build a RAID0 array and you're done. If 1 disks crashes only RAID0 data will be lost. Good thing is that Ubuntu can also run FTP server and/or client.
