New Around Here
Hey Guys,:);)
I considered to buy a Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2.
The price is 200,00€.

Today I saw that the price for QNAP TS219 P+.They lowered the price from 285,00€ to 260,00€.

Now I am very uncertain. Which NAS shall I buy for home network ( Movie, Music Streaming and bit Backup ).:confused

The price difference from Ultra 2 to TS219 P+ is 60,00€ and the Ultra 2 has USB 3.0 and a 1,8 Ghz processor. The TS219 P+ only 1,6 Marvell CPU, but is also very fast.

Need advice. Please help. Shall I invest the 60,00€ more for a QNAP or go with Netgear, seems to be fit for the future.

Thankyou for your replies.

"PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!Urgent!!!!"

Really?

Very useful post by the way.

It is urgent because I hv no external HDD. I hv to sent my notebook to repair next week and want to make a backup on a new nas before i sent it.

Does someone get in touch with both NAS devices and can share his/her experience?

Either NAS will do what you want. If you look at the NAS Charts, the 219p+ and Ultra 4 are pretty evenly matched in performance.

You could also just buy a USB drive and back up to that for less money if you don't want to rush into buying a NAS.

Hi,
thank you for your reply. I got into the Nas thing and really want to buy one. Doesnt need external HDD so far.
I think Ultra 4 is nearly same performance as Ultra 2, except the 2 Bay extra. You mean the chart here on smallbuilder I already looked into.
Why is there then such a price difference between Netgear and Qnap...are the customers only paying for the brand name a lot of money more?

-Readynas Ultra 2 has better Processor 1,8 Ghz ( Qnap 1,6 Ghz ) and more Memory
-Readynas has USB 3.0 ( Qnap only USB 2.0 )
-supports 2x3TB HDD with latest Firmware ( What about Qnap??? )
-cheaper

-Qnap is a bit faster in network performance
-Qnap has lower power consumption 7 W Idle and 19W when it is working ( Readynas: 10W; 35W )
-Better and Easier UI ( Readynas UI is a bit slow )

What ELSE??

You have hit the main points. The NETGEAR is based on Intel Atom, so has higher component cost. You are also paying for the USB3 port.

The QNAP uses the latest Marvell CPU, which is lower cost and lower total component count.

Both will handle 3 TB drives. Check the disk compatibility documents each manufacturer posts.

No the Ultra with the USB 3.0 and the faster Cpu is cheaper than the Qnap...you misunderstood...

For your prices, you're right. Since NETGEAR now has the Ultra 2 Plus, perhaps the retailer is clearing out the old Ultra 2.

At any rate, either will work fine for you.

I read that the QNAP TS 219P+ is not suitable for living room because it is too loud.

Can someone say something about that??

Dude,

You've moved the goal posts at least a few times. And your manners leave something to be desired. Really, there is this whole please and thank you thing, congenial you know?

It is doubtful that anyone here will tell you buy 'X', you'll hear phrases like, "I prefer...". "Have you considered...", and "You might look at..." Nobody really wants to take responsibility for your decision, unless it contains an obvious mistake. When things are close, even more so.

Tim is sort of the Bull Goose Looney here, and he gave you some good insights - you can't really get much better. And Tim has said you can't go wrong with either.

Unless you have some further criteria, like it needs to operate at Zero G, or it has to match your decor. It sounds like you've settled on the ReadyNAS, go forth and buy.

Thanks

Noise level is very subjective. Whether it bothers you depends on your noise tolerance, room ambient noise level, whether the NAS is in a cabinet, etc.

See the review for my comments. Dual drive NASes will usually be more noisy than single drives due to more drive noise.

I don't tell people what to buy. It's your money and your decision.
