Reboot after power loss

I have noticed that my RT N66U does not reboot when lost power is restored. I have my phones on the router and this is not a good thing. Is there some way to make it reboot on the restoration of power? I have not found a setting. I am running - well I don't seem to be able to log on to my router. That is new. But it is a fairly recent Merlin release. I have tried to restore communications to no avail. Otherwise the router seems to be doing fine.

confused.

cold reboot, by definition, is "the power to the system is physically turned off and back on again". so the router was already rebooted.

your problem sounds more like, the modem wasn't ready when the router was ready (after power was restored to both), and still wouldn't communicate to it afterwards for whatever reason.

You should really be using a UPS if router uptime is so vital. It is good practice to have your router and/or modem on a UPS so you could possibly have internet even without power.

Actually - no.

No lights. Not powered on. As in dead as far as the network is concerned.

no. makes no sense.

the router have a power switch. when the power restores your router should TURN ON and REBOOT if it's already in the ON position. if not, your router has a big hardware problem.

also, if it's not even "powered on", how do you "reboot" it then other than hitting the physical switch?

I know it should not happen; hence this post.

I know there is a power switch. I turn it off and on and it starts. After failing to reboot after a power failure.

Firmware could possibly cause it. Or an electronic problem in the modem. I can hypothesize a number of possible reasons. But what I was after was someone with knowledge that might have seen the problem or know the cause.

the physical switch controls whether the router is on or not, not the firmware. if the firmware gets stuck during the reboot process, at least the POWER light should still on. if you say no light AT ALL, for sure you have a hardware problem.

don't mix up the reboot process (software/firmware) and power on process (hardware/electric).

also, "modem" is a completely different device altogether and RT N66U is not your modem. it gets dangerously confusing when you start saying "or an electronic problem in the modem".

Sorry about modem. Brain rot. I know better. It has also been several weeks since this happened and my recollections may be off. One major point I have recollected while typing, I believe I actually pulled the power connection at the router and replaced it. I apologize for lack of veracity and coherence. I was here checking on the latest releases and though I would just see if anyone recognizes the problem.

I do not know how the router is constructed. If the switch truly does switch main power rather than supply a signal to something as a PC does with the front panel "power" button, then what I described could not be true. See paragraph above.

The UPS powers my modem (really - the modem), router, switch, and VOIP. The UPS shut down for low battery after a while. Perhaps something odd happened at that point.

If there is corruption or failure in the right places, I could cause it not to boot at power on. But not affect the power light. I honestly am not sure if the power indicator was on or not. When it occurred, I looked at other indicators and saw everything was powered and operating. My VOIP device was showing no connection. I believe I saw no lights or activity on the router. Cycled power on the router and the router booted and everything else was fine.

I was hoping someone had seen this behavior. And I just discovered I am now unable to connect to the router management screens. Worked fine some weeks ago, before and after, I last updated the Merlin release. I am looking for anything that may have changed. There has been a patch Tuesday and updates to some security software since I last logged on to the router management function.

I must consider the possibility of a haunting.
