I've been running John's LTS for years on two AC68 I have to cover my home's 3 levels (3800sqft)
... since the power tweak option had been removed from the newer ASUS & Merlin builds.

Wondering if you guys see any benefit for me to move to the std Merlin builds?

thanks for the input!

2 AC68's in service with ethernet back-haul
- considering putting in a 3rd in for wider coverage footprint to try to cover yards
-- adding another AC68 would also allow splitting cameras between 3 routers (not sure if this matters)

My Usage...
multiple networks on each router, both bands (separate for wifi camera, guest, and family). Trying to keep the 1080p cameras streams somewhat separate and more secure
Different SSID names in hopes roaming across has a better chance for phones/tablets to 'choose' the best SSID .. but this really doesn't work well

many Port Forwarding rules
small JFFS script, nothing fancy
No VPN or QoS, etc
10x Wifi 1080p cameras streaming 24x7 -- dedicated SSID on each router, cameras split between routers.
5 Wifi 'people' devices (laptop, tablets, phones) - never all in use at the same time
1080p video streaming from NAS occurs via ethernet, not wifi.

HP enterprise switch connecting...
Syno NAS (music, videos, etc and late nite backups of 2 PCs - nothing major)
2x FireTV - usually only 1 in use at any given time
3x PCs - typically 1 or 2 in use at any given time, but usually surfing

I would always go for the newest firmware version with the updates on features, bug-fixes and newest drivers - of course this also has some back-draws like the limited power.

In my case the 2 device setup (see below) solves all coverage issues in my flat.

...How much difference is the 'limited power'?

Your sig says "both on Merlin's firmware 380.65 (tweaked)!"

... what specifically are you tweakig?

Depends on your region/country:
In EU/Germany you can have on
- 2.4 GHz only 100mW (other countries up to 300mW)
- 5 GHz only 100mW indoor (DFS allows outdoor up 1000 mW)
