Replace ASUS Gateway router

I just ordered a new gateway router to replace my current one, it is running the later merlin. And I back it up using backupmon. Is there a recommended way to do the swap? Can I restore anything from my backups after I install merlin on the new one?

Backups are only good from same model routers and you probably want to stay merlin to merlin or asus to asus. If you are using different models. You will need to go screen by screen and copy the configuration manually.
