I bought a new RT-AC3100 to replace one that was giving me some grief with the 5ghz radio shutting off. Before I returned the old one I saved the config. On the new one I uploaded the same Merlin FW (380.65_4) and then reset and rebooted. When I went to restore the CFG it completed successfully but only pieces of the old config came back. I just read that this is a no no. Wish I knew then what I know now.... I manually cleaned it up and configured it based on the screen shots I took (for troubleshooting purposes). Should I factory reset it again and manually configure it from scratch or do you think I'll be ok. It seems to be working OK (except for the VPN stuff I've been working through).

Thoughts?

Definitely. The cfg file contains low level settings that were specific to you old router. You might get away with it, but every time you have a problem you'll never know whether it is caused by that cfg file or not.

For the benefit of others who may view this thread in future, John's save and restore utility is very useful for transferring settings from one router to another, using its migration mode. (Thank you John!)

The QuickStart.txt file included in the zip provides instructions.
