Authority, far be it from me to be understood nor misunderstood as in this case in what was meant as a jest in what you quoted. To be sure the subject is far too complex. To be sure, it's questionable how much 'faith' anyone should place in FW when they're prevented from securely achieving what can be done with strictly maintained and properly administered FW forks; Merlins fork is unique in this respect. The history of Asus and Merlin FW goes back a very long way. As for the post, ie, what you've quoted, many tend to take too much issue with other's comments, words or take it out of context. Every human's viewpoint and perception varies at any moment, with factors such as age, experience, etc. To some it might seem reasonable stock firmware might inspire faith or trust, but to each it's a personal decision, not an opion, so what works best for each. In answer of your reply, IMO, downloading/using and administering stock firmware, is what one does if one is happy with it's limitations. It's not inherently reasonable to have faith in it nor that the user will be fine, whomever 'we' might be. 'Modded device' has different meanings for each; updating/upgrading any computing device, software or firmware is a calculated risk. Each must carefully make their own choices, which includes their level of experience and expertise as well as all risks/benefits. A modded device per se can mean almost anything. After researching the subject, do what's best in your situation. No further comment.
