I have set up an AP (RT-N16)in my loft room which is attached to the network via ethernet with the intent to get wifi in the room, my gateway router is a(RT-N66U).

Is it possible to have the wifi as one big one, currently my daughters have to log into the AP wifi in thier room but when they come downstairs the signal is lost and they have to log into the gateway routers wifi. I have the routers setup with different ssid's

Also i have noticed that the AP picks up anything connected to the network via the gateway but it doesnt pass on the naming i have set all the devices, i have to manually look for them on the gateway and edit them on the AP, is this a limitation of the RT-N16.

I use an app on my android devices called wifi manager by Kostya Vasilyve that you can set to automatically switch you to strongest wifi AP near you. So far, it works great. I have an Ac88u as primary cat 5 to old Linksys 6800 in basement and an ac68 wireless repeater out on my shop. I bounce between them as I move around seamlessly. You have to enable this function in app settings.
