ROG Rapture GT-BE19000 - General Questions regarding Game network, and how to optimize

LowLatency

New Around Here
Router: ROG Rapture GT-BE19000
Connection: Ethernet
Internet Speeds: 1.4g down, 100mb up.

Setup: VirginHub5 in modem mode, connected to be19000, ethernet cable (15m) to Gaming PC.

Questions:

1. I have set up the router, however im confused regarding things related to gaming. I see there is a gaming network i can make, which i have done. however, i cant seem to get my PC to connect specifically to the gaming network. the gaming network is usually 192.168.52.x for example. but my pc is always assign to 192.168.50.x (main network) no matter what i do. am i using the gaming network incorrectly? do i need additional software to transfer myself over to the gaming network manually? pc is connected via ethernet.

2. Is there any point in my even using the gaming network, if im the only person myself using the internet, devices being my Gaming PC and occasionally my iphone?

3. Is there any specific settings i should change on this router, to lower latency / force it into a gaming state that can benefit me on competitive FPS games?

4. Gaming Accelerator, QoS, GameFirst VI, GameBoost etc - Is any of this beneficial? I've done speed test with it all enabled, and my ping appears to have lowed by 3-5ms. But i see a lot of conflicting information online regarding using these, im new to all of this and some of the information is overwhelming.

Outcome i would like: to have my computer and network optimized so for the best online gaming experience.

Thank you to anyone who can help further my understanding of the above questions, i apologies if I've posted this in the wrong section, im new here and trying to learn everything. t

There was no point buying this expensive "gaming" router in first place. There is no gaming networking, there is gaming marketing and it hit your wallet good. All the gaming options above are basically different QoS settings, something perhaps you don't need anyway for two client devices and Gigabit ISP. Your ISP provided gateway, your PC wired to it, your iPhone on whatever Wi-Fi the gateway offers - all you need.

so when you create the "gaming network" what actually is happening then, and how do you connect to it, if its just marketing. And is there ant specific settings i should enable to have the best gaming experience? I'm not arguing its an overpriced router, because it is. but i was fortunate to get this as a gift from my wife, who got it discounted due to her position in her work. im just trying to better understand what i have, that's all. thanks for your reply.

With your single gaming device connected to Gigabit ISP line this Gaming router is more like fancy night light. It also takes more space and burns more electricity. It can't control latency upstream to game servers, can't reduce your DOCSIS modem latency and it has nothing to optimize on single Ethernet connection out. The real difference in gaming experience with or without it is going to be from minimal to non-existent.

OP, you bought a very powerful and capable router. It's good for an internet connection that's faster than 1gpbs.

It looks like if you have the GT-BE98Pro, you can run merlin firmware:

Regardless, it's a great router with a dedicated gaming LAN port, LAN 6. You are correct that connecting your gaming PC with a hard wire ethernet cable is the best way to do it.

Use that port with a quality CAT6 cable and you are good.

Other settings? To be honest, I value stability and security over tweaking odd settings and hoping things don't blow up. With your internet connection speed and your router, you are not losing much of anything if you don't want to delve into those "gamer" settings right away. Get your router working stably and reliably and lock it down by making sure things you do not need are not turned on. There are several guides for that here.

I assume you have wireless devices in your home--that router will take care of all of them and more.

Best WiFi approach is the use a frigging ethernet cable, not use wireless. You're all there.

Your lag is not in your router.

Setting QOS? Meh, unless your home network is overloaded by other users, I don't think it is necessary.

I think Tech9 is a little harsh on the aesthetic aspect, but this is because I have an Asus gt-AX6000, that looks like a head crab. Tech9 will be glad to know I turned off the light show.

Enjoy your new router, read about its setup here, game away, and if you notice limitations or issues, come back and search, or ask away.

Make sure your Cat6 Ethernet patch cable is good quality, Monoprice is as low as I would go, Belden Cat6 is great, or PM for other recommendations.

On the practicality aspect. As per use case description in post #1 this 3-band gaming router has two clients - a wired PC and occasionally an iPhone. There is nothing to prioritize on the LAN and no one else is using the available >Gigabit ISP line. Just an extra device for hundreds of dollars with unused features burning electricity and flashing lights. See here:

I find it so amusing and frustrating that some people refuse to answer the OP's question. I had a similar question, but after reading the replies, most of which questioned the OP's question, I realized there are many people out there who enjoy wasting their time refusing to answer the OP. I'll never understand the motivations of some people.

This router is not needed for someone with personal ISP line and two devices. Do you enjoy wasting your money?
