New Around Here
I'm looking to add a second router to a friends holiday home system.

The router will need to perform two functions, the first to act as a VPN for the Smart TV's around the house to prevent regional restrictions. Not all traffic will be routed via this router.

The second function to act as a Captive Portal system to provide local travel advice and user sign up (not payment) for guests at their home.

Would prefer and out of the box solution.

Any suggestions. A Pi may be an option if anyone has experience of this?

Thanks

If you are looking to buy an out of the box solution for such a requirements, you may want to check this out. I am pretty sure your friend will like this router. In fact he can use this as the main router and not as a second router. Pretty nice gift for the holidays.

Ouch, not cheap :)

Also you could look for a used Sophos SG or XG unit and install a home license on it for free ..
Many say the interface is much nicer than PfSense but personally I didn't try to load PfSense
on my XG115 as the installer was crashing, however I'm running mine with Sophos UTM.

This would give you an idea of what you'll have:

Note, I believe the captive portal will not be available on a home license though ...
